2010 ACUI Intercollegiate 9-Ball Championship

I don't doubt the skills. There's a reason he snapped off his tournament. But you think he's that sure to win, 5:4? Provided, there's no Lars or Adam Maloney this year from what I hear, but it's still a field. Tiger wasn't even that low for the Masters this year.

I never said he was a lock at all. I dont even know who is in the field. It could very well be another year that some killer like Dan Louie or Nick Varner typer player snaps it off. I just want to sweat it. But your right, I probably am offering up the nuts. Instead, ill offer this bet instead. If any AZer want to just do a straight up even money sweat bet that they finish higher than my bud Ray ill take action on that prop. Any bet up to 50 accepted.

Guess I'm not used to the sweat betting :p

The people at the hall where I'm from won't bet if they're a coin flip to win or around that. I'd give you 5:4 if I weren't playing in the thing. It's exciting to get back into this tournament for sure. I'm hoping to do better than my 7th/8th finish last year.

Ill take a lil sweat bet on my buddy Ray to snap it off this year. Ill take him against the rest of the field betting 40 to win 50 if anyone wants action on this.
If I were to bet. I gotta take Sam Gilmer. I dont see how anyone will beat him this year.

UPDATE: All signs point to UMichigan to host the 2010 ACUI tournament.

It's a very good room to have the tournament in, I just wish there were more schools around the country interested in hosting the event. There are probably many fewer campus pool rooms these days than there used to be.

PoolBum...It's partly that, but more that they need campus rec centers that have at least 18-20 9' tables, for the ACUI format. Those are what's hard to find. There are still many hundreds of colleges and universities with campus pool rooms...many have just a couple of tables though (and many of those are barboxes).

You know, I'm beginning to think that even the university's supply of tables is negotiable. Last year, about a half-dozen practice tables were set up in a side banquet-esque room, all apparently provided by a sponsor. They played pretty good for having been just set up. Maybe it could be a trend, have a few matches on those tables eventually.

Im Not from UF

So far, all signs are pointing at UMich, but other colleges have until the end of this week to apply to host the tournament. And the best I could do as far as results come from each of the regions' ACUI sites. Here's what I found, listing the people invited to the tournament:

Region 3 - Southeast Pennsylvania, New York City and Long Island, Delaware, and New Jersey

1st - Ryan Gilligan - The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey
2nd - Gregory Blasdel - University of Delaware

Region 4 - Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia, Washington, DC

1st - Hamilton Yim - University of Maryland – Baltimore County
2nd - Grant Moller - University of Maryland
3rd - David Stanley - University of Maryland – Baltimore County

Region 6 - Alabama, Bermuda, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico

1st - Raymond Linares - University of Florida

Region 8 - Wisconsin, Upper Peninsula Michigan, Chicago

1st - Jonathan Strzezewski - Wright College

Region 10 - Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Manitoba, Western Ontario

1st - Mike Meier - North Dakota State University
2nd - Jesse Hill - University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

Region 12 - Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Mexico

1st - William Hill – University of Texas – Tyler
2nd - Charles Crouch – University of Houston
3rd - Alejandro Zuniga – Texas A&M International University
4th - William Chan – University of Texas – Arlington
5th - Evan Chen – University of Houston
6th - Le Nguyen – University of Houston
7th - Bisente “B.J.” Mendez Jr. – Sam Houston State University

Hey John I'm not representing UF, my girlfriend Heather snapped it off for UF... I took first place for Miami Dade College.... Thanks..

Psycho_Mycho...I think the top two get small scholarships. When I played (70's) there were 16 men and 16 women...not sure if it's still the same. There are 15 regions, and the top winner in each region advances to the national tournament. The host region for the nationals usually gets to send two players, making 16. You do know you have to have already qualified to play in this event, don't you? You cannot just enter on your own.

I'm just wondering do any of you guys get scholorships for pool? And how many players are there in this tournament?

I'll change that, no problem. I thought you and Heather were both at UF.

Here's how they've set up the tournament nowadays. Each region holds a qualifier tournament, and based upon the size of the field, the top 8% (I think, don't quote me) or at least the top 2 get an invitation to Nationals, the winner usually getting their entry paid for by the regional director. And a recent development have been the inclusion of "independent qualifiers" to Nationals. Gaining the approval of ACUI beforehand, individual schools can hold qualifiers, this year featuring one at Virginia Tech and another at UMich. The field for Nationals turns out to be however many people managed to qualify, and the top 4 get small scholarships.

Michigan has a real nice room. Enjoy!

Does anyone know if Region 2 is hosting a qualifier this year? They didn't when I was in college... :frown:
