BCAPL Offers Amateur 9-Ball Event in Conjunction with U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship

An amateur 9-Ball tournament will be held this fall concurrently with the famed U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship. CueSports International (CSI) is introducing the BCAPL Chesapeake 9-Ball Challenge at the Norfolk Marriott Chesapeake in Chesapeake, Virginia on October 20-23, 2010.

The Marriott is located across the street from the 35th Annual U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship’s long time venue, the Chesapeake Convention Center. CSI and U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship’s long time producer, Barry Behrman, have agreed upon the two events taking place simultaneously to build more synergy between the professional and amateur sides of the sport.

The BCAPL regional event will feature men’s singles, women’s singles, coed beginner singles, men’s mixed team and women’s team divisions. The $2,400 guaranteed added amateur tournament will be open to BCAPL and USAPL League Members and current non-league Player Members.

All participants in the BCAPL event will receive 20% off spectator tickets to the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship scheduled October 17-23.

Holly, will you be coming to Chesapeake for this event? It would be great to see you.

BTW, the annual CCB tournament will be on Friday 10/22. You were there in the beginning and it would be great if you could possibly find the time to stop in, if you are in town.

Hi Rich :) I really don't know, but it's doubtful this year. It's tough coming across the country for a couple of days and I have a bit too much on the plate right now to take a week off. I was talking the other day about putting it into my schedule in 2011 and plan ahead. I't been too long for sure and would love to see long time no see east coast friends.

Holly, I'm sorry to hear that but I understand. Just start making those plans for next year and we'll see you then.

We're already getting entries in for this event :)
There will be 32 Diamond 7' Smart Tables and the event will start Wednesday evening Oct. 20 and must be completed by 5 pm Sat. Oct. 23 so everyone can make sure to be at the Convention Center to watch the semi-finals and finals of the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship.

Out of curiosity, what is the criteria for entering the "coed beginner" field? Can anyone who is eligible for the "open" tournament play in this?

Hi Tim,

The criteria is:
a. either a sanctioned BCAPL Open or known ability open rated player member (non-league player)
b. Can only enter ONE singles event

So an open player has the option of the No Money Added Beginners division or can play in the regular singles which will be handicapped between the various levels (men's singles: open to 5, advanced to 7 and master to 9 / women's singles open to 5, advanced to 6 and master to 7). But these divisions will have added money.

Ideally the beginner singles is to introduce players who are dipping their toe into tournament format pool outside of league.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any additional questions.

:) Holly

Thanks Holly. I was wondering because my only experience with BCA singles was playing in the open division @ Qlympics & getting bounced in 2 straight.

This is very different Tim. Are you a BCAPL league member? If so you are eligible to put a team together and play in the singles in Chesapeake. If not, then you can join CSI as a player member ($25 annual member fee). Then you will be eligible to play in singles only.

Getting a lot of calls on this event. Taking entries now :) also players in this event will receive 20% off spectator tickets to the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships also taking place that week across the street at the Chesapeake Convention Center.

I'm a league Member. I play in the league run by John Shields in Winston-Salem, NC.

Happy Fri. Tim...cool, good luck to ya. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Bump bump bump...

By they way, if you are a member of a league that uses the BCAPL Rules, that does not necessarily mean it's a sanctioned BCA Pool League. This came up in a PM I received today. So thought I'd mention it here.

If you are a member of a league that you are not 100% sure has been fully or properly sanctioned as BCAPL please contact me via email (holly@playcsipool.com) or via a PM. I'll need the name of the league operator, city and state. I will check in our system if this is a sanctioned league with our national office.

Thanks
