One of the really good people in pool is Houston's Ernesto Bayaua. In addition to being a really strong player (2011 US Amateur Champion, multi time Lone Star Tour Champion) he's also one of the nicest people you'll meet off the table.

Unfortunately Ernesto suffered a stroke a couple of weeks ago at the age of 40 and his recovery will be long and hard.

I recognize that things are difficult out there right now for a lot of people, but his friends have put together a GoFundMe account to help with the medical and household bills during his rehabilitation:

https://www.gofundme.com/wznzfw4c

If you have the ability to donate I know that he would appreciate it and if you can't make a donation, please take the time to share this on your social media or other forums so that others may consider helping.

Thank you for reading this and for considering helping out.

Sincerely,

David Coates

Hey David,

That's a cool thing to do, glad you put the word out. I hope everyone will cut&paste this info and send it to their entire address book. I spoke with Ernesto's family a few days ago and the struggle is just beginning so any help would be great, Ernesto is one of the really good guys in pool, a good player and a Great guy all around.

Wow -

He's a great guy and pretty sporty player.
This terrible and extremely unexpected news!
I knew him (not real well) from my days owning College Billiards. He went on to grab a decent (top 8?) in the US Open 9-ball 3-4 years ago - I think.

Could you please let me know if he will be coming to San Diego for the Jay Swanson Memorial? He is signed up and paid and we will gladly send him his full entry back if we know he will not be there. That will also allow the next person on the waiting list to know ahead of time that he will be playing.

If someone could contact me, I would greatly appreciate it.

I consider Ernesto a friend. He truly is one of the nicest people in the pool world, with the best attitude out there. I heard he was sick but had no idea it was what you say here. This is unbelievably sad.

I will do what I can to put the word out there. I forget if you posted the link. If not please do. I have lots of pool friends on FB. Please let me know any way I can help.

Mark,
I'd say there is less than 1% chance he makes it to this.
Message him and/or his girl on Facebook. They will respond. I'd call, but I do not want to bug them at this time with all they got going on.

My guess is a lot of us have lots of pool friends on Facebook. I think it would be a good idea to share the gofundme link on our pages. You will find a post about this on mine!

Pool would be so different if most players were like Ernesto. Think about that.

I would like to put in my two cents on this:

Ernesto is...like several have already alluded to, one of the nicest people you will ever meet. I would say that he is the virtual opposite of that quarterback from Carolina!

The way that I mean that is this; Ernesto NEVER talks trash...NEVER! He never sharks an opponent...he never brags about his game...he just plays and then, if you beat him, (which doesn't happen very often for anybody) he very nicely, congratulates you and wishes you the best in your upcoming matches.

A little side note to that quarterback: Hey Cam, if you played with Ernesto and happen to beat him...after he has a great attitude in defeat, you would find out that a man can be a good loser and still be a winner!

Ernesto's girl (Teresa), is as nice as he is. She is an absolute sweetheart of a girl! She also plays very competitively in the ladies tournaments.

I enjoy meeting quality people as I go through life. I count myself fortunate to call them friends!

If you're ever in a tournament and those two happen to be in the field, don't miss the opportunity to introduce yourself. You will have met two people that are great ambassadors for the game of pool!

Having played him a couple times, and been on the win and loss side, I can verify that this is spot on.
