2012 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

Just ran a 59 at home in practice, besting my highest run by 2!

Two weeks ago I ran a 43, got kiss scratched on the break. Bad roll, so I reset the breakshot and ran a 48. I think that's my best performance but still not a real, official high run as I did in fact scratch.

Congrats :)

Seems like you made a step and shooting constantly your runs now-
have a smooth stroke and keep up with the good work,

Felt good

I had a 31 over at a fellow AZ'ers house last week. My miss was a ball that ran out of steam, but was on target.

Nice run Jim. Keep up the good work.
As for me. I have not had time to practice the way that I was practicing in some time now. When I have done some, it was pretty poor. Things are turning around now & I see some good practice time coming back. I will clean off the dust from my 1980 VHS recorder and try to get a nice run on tape.
Once again, good work & continue to play 14.1
It will lead your game to another level.

38 Ball Run

Well it doesn't beat my career best of 50 from 2 years ago but it is my best for this year so far. Please put me down for 38 on July 21.

Thanks

And he did it in a Qualifying Tournament for the World Straight Pool Championship, in a strange room, with a hostile crowd. :grin-square:

congrats, Jim, on holding up under pressure.

I made a couple of runs advancing into the second rack and they both counted for 22... Lots of 14s, fail to play good position on last key balls and/or miss break shots. Hope I will learn to string racks together eventually, today I was satisfied with the way I advanced through some tough racks (they were aforementioned 14s though).

Vahmurka:
the keyshot should usualy be the easiest shot of the whole rack :)
Relax- practice also many times the brainwash drill. This should help for sure.

Very true Ingo !!!

very important to land on the right side of the keyball though, this is where a lot of players get tied up and the Brainwash Drill will definitely help that !!

new personal best

I had surgery and hadn't been playing much, I finally got back to it and after cleaning all equipment (table, balls, etc.) I ran 26 the other night. Felt good, hopefully I am on my way to knowing something about this game!!

Finally, back in the 40s!

I ran 41 at home on August 9th. I haven't ran 40+ in almost two years. The practice is paying off and my new Diamond ball cleaner / polisher isn't hurting either.

I was a half ball width away from perfect position on my key to the key ball. So I ended up trying to make my original key ball in attempt to land perfect on my new key ball. I didn't get the position and missed it trying to get on the break ball.

congrats, Jim. get on that next break ball and you'd have a good chance to get another 50.

I haven't even sniffed a 40 in months.

Thanks, Dennis. I'm dying to get past my career high of 50.

Jim:

I love reading about new highs, or "almost did it" -- they're quite inspirational, and I find myself doing a fist pump when I read them.

Keep at it -- you'll break that 50 with perseverance!

Thanks Sean. It's such a great community we have here in the 14.1 forum. Everyone is so supportive and genuinely wants to see people improve their game.

Last Night.

Well, it was summer 9-ball league last night & my team played Jim's team. I had a great time talking to Jim about his trip to Chicago & his playing in the tournament. I asked him many questions incluing questions about our own "dmgwalsh" (Dennis). Jim had a lot of good things to say about Dennis & the other guys who he met. Also really good things about the the room (Red Shoes) and it's owner. Maybe, I too can go up that way & play in that great tournament. I spoke to Jim about his good runs that he is having. Keep up the good work. Congrats Jim on playing so good.

I must confess when I first met Jim up there, I was rushing around, getting things ready for the tournament and I was not overly friendly. When things calmed down later, I was able to chat with him a bit, but I ran out of gas and left the pool hall before the night was over. I know John Lavin, who runs a very nice pool room was chatting with him. I know Tom Karabotsos was talking with him. I introduced him to Ron Shepard and they had a good long talk since they are both braniacs. I figured I had put him with kindred spirits and that is when I left.

You guys are always welcome up here. We will be having a handicapped tournament a week from tomorrow and I will try to stream some of the play. We are going to start streaming a little more when our new league starts up September 5, 2012 and I hope to be able to bring you some good matches.
