2012 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

Finally got back on a table last night! After struggling a bit with 3 9's in a row I ran an 18! so for now my high run for the year is 18! :)

Wow- great dear Heather :)
The lady is back in town- have a smooth stroke!

Mixed emotions about this run, ran 98 today. I woulda been happy with myself if was a 92-95 ball run, but a 98 is kick in the pants. I missed the break shot, it was a steep angle but all I had to do was make the ball and the rack would have spread nicely to keep going.

My goal this year is to run a 100 balls in straight pool and a snooker century in the same week. It's a silly one, but i thought it'd be a cool accomplishment. This week was my closest, I had a 92 break on tuesday and a 98 ball run on Sunday.

Maaaaybe next week.

Doesn't sound silly at all! Which do you find easier? I kind of think (with BIH to start) that the century would be easier. :p

I've often pondered this, but I would give the 100 ball run the edge. No two snooker centuries are equal, starting with the reds tightly packed together and having to develop them is a whole different difficulty level than a nice spread of balls and all colours on their spots.

On the other hand 100 ball runs don't really vary in difficulty. I mean, you can get some lucky rolls here and there, but for the most part it's all up to you to make things happen. Furthermore, it's also the difference between 25-40 minutes (depending on you're speed of play) of concentration and about 7-10 minutes.

I would say a total clearance is probably on par with a 100 ball run.

CONGRATS- very strong number on your diamond table!
keep shooting young-gun :-)

I ran 68 today 3/24/12

I had played two races today with a pretty equal opponent beating him both games by like 50 points in races to 100 points. I was feeling pretty good considering that I am only back to playing for a few weeks and I am still trying to adjust to a new Shurtz cue that I just picked up.

Well anyways I felt pretty good during the games and i still had some time to kill and i felt like i might be able to put up a good number. Well i did just that I ran a very clean 68 which I screwed up late at the end of the last rack when I inadvertently tied up 2 balls with no available balls to help break open that late cluster. I felt very satisfied with this run, nice and controlled. Hopefully I can continue this into tomorrow's 14.1 league match at Raxx in Hempstead NY.

If you are ever in the Long Island area I highly recommend you pay Holdin Chin a visit at his great room.

A not-so-bad 84

Hey guys, although late in reporting it, chalk me up for an 84 on March 24th. It's not triple-digit like my previous high, but for being early in this year, I guess it's a good start. And the only reason why the run ended was because in the opening of the 7th rack, I was focusing too hard on where in the rack I wanted the cue ball to hit, and I forgot to "pocket the ball" (break ball, that is), jarring it. :o

To be honest, in stark contrast to the change in my avatar pic that some folks noticed, I haven't been playing much 14.1 lately -- more 8-ball (due to a weekly league commitment, which, thankfully, keeps me at the table on a predictable schedule) and one pocket. And even then, I'm only playing two nights a week in total. I'd been very sleep-deprived lately due to work, but the night before I ran that 84, I'd f-i-n-a-l-l-y gotten a good night's sleep, and it made all the difference in the world -- I was finally able to see long-term patterns, and not do bone-headed things like shoot-off a good key-ball early. I hope to repeat that good night's sleep thing a lot more often. At least I can only hope! (My customers hold the key to that one.)

P.S.: I hope to get equipped for video sometime soon.

Whoa -- I just noticed this -- congrats, Steve! Looks like we both had decent runs on the same day! Couldn't make it down to Raxx that weekend (wasn't feeling well enough for the drive down), but at the same time, I'd gotten a good night's sleep -- the best one in a long time, probably due to the cold meds. And it really helped!

I definitely second your notion on Holden's room -- Raxx is GREAT!

Congrats to both Stevie & Sean for great runs. Keep up the great shooting. Sean: welcome to my world when it comes to playing only one time a week (league), not enough sleep & nerve damage pain down my right arm...... but we all hang in there & give it our best. Does all this mean (i'm getting old)..... LOL Serenity Now, Serenity Now...

Broke my high run by a single ball bringing me up to...

21

I missed a fairly easy shot but had some troublesome clusters that probably would have stopped the run in another ball or two anyway.

40

Last night I beat my last record of 29:))...
I made 40! I've started my camera but somehow I've missed to press the rec button :((.
Next time...

Thanks,
Chris

ran 30 tonight (4/10/12), eclipsing my 29 on Jan 4 at position 39 on the list.

10.14.6

played the first rack very cleanly, got on a nice break shot, made that and then scrambled most of the 2nd rack, but played the last 4 balls, which were still clustered, perfectly, nudging out a great break shot with only one more shot left after that! got perfect shape on it and broke nicely again, and thought i was playing smart, but ball 6 was just off the rail about 4" from a lower corner, with a pretty thin cut, and i decided to try to open the rest of the pack (it was just part of the back line) with it instead of just getting back out in the clear where there were shots open -- made the shot, but lost the cue behind the balls instead.

was pretty silly; there were only 4 balls in a line, i could've waited until later, and if i knew how many i was on, i would've, because my all time high is 31, so i'd certainly have broken it if i didn't try to do too much with that shot.

still, pretty encouraging since i haven't played in a week and my shot-making was showing that, so i felt like i was playing pretty smart (for a change!).
