2012 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

new high run of 43 today ...

i wanted to break the high run again but then ... the tip came off.. need to glue a new tip.

thanks to danny diliberto and john schmidt for their videos.

I need a DVR camera to keep track of my runs, I have learned that a normal camera does not allow me enough time (bueno). But I must say mmasou that my 267 was real and my 280 (which was filmed will pass the geek squad spacial relations test).

well, this looks kinda silly coming right after Danny's post, but it's good for me: had a 30 today, 11/13/12, following on my 30 from April.

kb to break, then ran a pretty clean 2 racks, had a very nice break shot but stuck it to the pack, managed to squeeze one more ball in but couldn't get anywhere from there.

but definitely looking encouraging, largely due to help from sparkle84, i must say, because it was not at all the kind of scramble that runs in that neighborhood were for me previously; there wasn't a moment in the run where i felt out of control. i Did get out of line a couple of times, but not terribly, and was never in danger of missing.

52

Shatter my 2012 high run of 51 with a 52 on 11/23/12 at Jack n Jill Billiards in Wilkes-Barre, PA in a game against John Leschinsky. Missed a long break ball that was close to the left side of the rack.

woooooohoooooooo!!!!

got back from work a little while ago, and...

...just utterly Smashed through my old high (30, 2x this year, most recently on Nov 13) with a 41!!!!!!!

it wasn't pretty, but parts of it were wicked clever. and it started off in the most unlikely way, with a series of Disastrous leaves coming off the very first break shot, and 3 impossible shots in a row to dig out of the mess. at the end of the first rack i was already wishing i had the video rolling.

the rest of it was the most solid shotmaking and position play i've had by far. missed the key ball to end it, the position i needed coming off the key ball was scratchable and i missed the shot looking at that side pocket trying to gobble my cue ball.

did 2 things different that i remember: (1) played my break shots quite a bit softer; i've been opening every ball, but getting left tough, and the softer break seems to leave me in better control of the table; (2) i took more time with the easier shots, making sure i got not just acceptable position off of them, but great position.

turns out that it matters where you leave the cue ball; whodathunk?

i dunno 'bout 50, sparkle, but there goes 40, anyway!

Well, consider this, if you hadn't taken your eye off the KB you might already be over 50. I said by the end of the year so we've still got a month. Take a look at Marop's 71 ball run if you haven't already. I'll be sending you an email about a couple things that occurred which are noteworthy.
You've made good progress in the last couple months & I think you'll find that your consistency will get better & better. 30's & 40's will become routine. Your stroke has improved but we're going to refine it even more. I think the grip & a level cue are the keys to that. Once that happens your position options will increase even more. Your thought process is getting much better & will continue to improve as you gain knowledge. 14.1 is still relatively new to you & there's a ton of subtleties still to be learned. One thing you can do now is watch some of the videos you have with a more critical eye. It should be much clearer to you now as to what the players objectives are. And also some of the mistakes they make thru poor shot selection.Take a look at what Schmidt did on shot 101 of his 171 ball run. That's an example of a superior straight pool mind.

Congrats on the 41.

Thats awesome Bob, i am very happy to hear this !!!

i am in the same boat. went out last night and played a buddy of mine from league, debated bring my camera...but didnt :-(

we played 3 games to 150, in those games i got over 40 three times. several times in the mid 20s, every time i stepped to the table with a full rack of balls out it seemed i was running a full rack plus... felt fantastic !!

again Congrats !

Sunday, June 16, 9:15p. ran a new high of 42 quite cleanly.

(as Steve Kurtz points out, i don't have a Delorean; should be December. guess i'm not liking the cold rain!!!).

had the world's easiest, classic break shot, exactly parallel with the ob and about 2 feet away, and missed it. wasn't nervous, wasn't sweating the number, may have been a little cocky that i was gonna hit 50 and pulled the trigger too fast.

12-21. Knocked off work early and went to pool hall. Ran 39; bad roll scratch on #40.

Not huge but good for me. Stroking well. Wanted to post this for 2012 to give me a target!

Nice run Rob. It was good to meet you this week.

Had a 58 unfinished in League. My opponent asked me to continue made a few more then missed a duck at 64.

Well,

nice runs in the last days of the year here.
Congrats Wiggley :-) You re becoming very consistant. Work on your patterns, and this will be *a daily boring job* for you ^^

@Steve: whazzup with your *hunt* for 2012? :p

well, no 50 this year. i leave for Sweden tomorrow (2nd of the 3 legs is an overnight flight on Christmas Eve, ooog).

haven't had much chance to play the past week or more, trying to get everything done i gotta do before i go. did manage to hit a 30 closely followed by a 24 in the pre-dawn this morning (i'm already trying to be on Swedish time, 6 hours ahead of the eastern US). and the 30 was only interrupted because i intentionally ignored an easy, known pattern, to try a more adventurous one. so, yes, Ingo, my consistency is up. except on those days i can't make it into the 2nd rack...

thanks to everyone for all the kindness and help this year! wishing you all a Merry Christmas or whatever holiday is yours, and all the best for the New Year!

I had new high run of 61 in practice today. This tops my 54 from earlier this year and gives me something to shoot for in the new year.

Missed an easy shot in the side pocket on an open table. Bah. That's what happens when you take a shot for granted.

The prior inning I had a 28 before getting bad shape on the break ball. So that's 89 in two innings, which is also a new high for me.
