2012 US Mosconi Cup race

Hey how come Jose Parica does not get considered for the Mosconi team. As far as I know, Jose now holds a US passport. Even in Jose's prime during the mid 90s when he won the overall title in the Camel series, I don't recall him ever being considered for the mosconi cup. In other sports, the US allows naturalized citizens to represent the country in international competition. Is pool an exception??

No offense here but Jose Parica or even Sambajon (another naturalized citizen) are way better than most of the names being considered for this year's team except for Svb, dechaine and morris.

the mosconi cup is supposed to be pool's equivalent to the ryder cup, meaning that the US players should be from, and are chosen to represent the US. as much as i like parica, he is best known for leading the charge from the PI to the US, and is one of the most notorious filipino players of all time. he even played in a team phillipines vs team usa event in the early 90's. as far as santo's i've met and very much like him, but if he's "way better" than the other names being considered you and I have very different views of this game

Donny...It's not a popularity contest...it's a "world class" event. Points earned competing in sanctioned events is the correct way to determine it. The pros would only vote for themselves, or their "buddies"...and most fans aren't qualified enough (don't know the players well enough) to make a vote that represents the skills of the players. jmo

And I believe it should be the case for the Hall of Fame. If there was an objective method to determine hall of fame members, Parica would be one by now.

Only the top 2 are automatic, the other 3 are picked by matchroom. Out of those 3 they will probably only take Hatch using the other 2 spots for vets like Archer, Morris, Deuel or Strickland.

A guy that is not playing and working CONSTRUCTION!!! Should be taken over Brandon Shuff who is in dead punch and playing every day!!!

This makes NO COMMON SENSE to me!!! But, what do I know???

Have to agree with Scott

I have to agree, you make good points.

It's just that we don't do well by having points choose the team.

And the fans are the ones who WATCH on television or computer.
Couldn't they have SOME say?

It's also a TEAM event. A "team" is not always the best players. I've played on a LOT of championship teams. Over the years, I went from picking the BEST players, to choosing the players with the best attitude among the best players. Players who get along with each other, the referees, and the opponents. I don't like watching matches where it looks like someone's going to start punching. I suppose we could call it "good manners", something the American teams have lacked a bit in recent years.

Here's an idea:
How about using the point system to choose ten players. Have the ten players vote for their five choices among the ten, and US fans choose five of the ten. The five with the most total votes play, and the other five are potential subs.
