My 9-ball team qualified for the nationals this year and it will be my first trip...checking in the see what AZ's will be going. Any advice from those who have been would be appreciated.

My team name is "Come get some"...if you are at the event, come have a drink with us and hang out/shoot some pool. A couple guys on my team (me included) would love to find some people to shoot some friendly sets with...we are easy to see as our team captain is 6'9" and looks like baby bigfoot haha.

My team "You Can Do EEET" also won our LTC 2 weeks ago and will be our first time in Vegas as well! I've also been digging through AZB looking for info/tips on what to do, where not to go, etc... Really, all I wanna do is go down the street to the other real pool room and pull up a chair - and maybe catch a Bonus Ball match live in the arena, just cuz we'll be there.

And play a lot of Mini's with hopes of covering food costs. LOL

My team Nan & Pops, from Nan & Pops (lol, we don't have a fancy team name), also, won our first trip to Vegas. We're based out of Martinsburg, WV.

Take a pair of running shoes or something you are completely comfortable walking in, you will do alot of walking. If you are flying into Mccarran and are taking a cab to the Riviera don't let the cab driver take you down Las Vegas Blvd take Paradise Rd which will put you right behind the Riv and will save some cash on the cab ride.

My team will be out there but we're in the 8 ball event. Team name Rob's Blazin 8's.

We're playing 9-ball only. 1st time for all of us.

now, if we can only work out the travel arrangements - and figure out how much money to bring for food and entertainment after we go 2 and out! haha

Good advice. I wanted to also note that if the driver tells you "there's construction on Paradise", 99% of the time it's a ruse so they can longhaul you. Cabbies in Las Vegas are absolutely notorious for longhauling visitors. Every time I've been told the "construction" ruse, I told the cabbie to take Paradise anyway and there was of course no construction.

We won the 9 ball for our area . Our team name is "Family Ties" ( yea we are family )

We have 8 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2

Thanks for the advice on the cabbies. We found a great deal on Expedia.com staying at the LVH that booked our flight and room together, saving us money. The LVH has a mono rail stopp for ease of travel when we feel like seeing some Vegas. I personally want to go to Freemont St and old Vegas, shoot in a lot of minis, and see some Bonus Ball.

We are based out of Spartanburg, SC and are there for 9 ball.

you will have to get a deuce bus pass to go to fremont street.. the monorail only goes as far as where the old sahara was...

enjoy it... its such a great place.. i will be there for the 14th to the 20th... not playing in the big tournament but deffinatly the mini's!

My 9-ball team qualified...we're Canadian, but are looking to have a little fun...I think it is the first time for all the members...first CPA/APA session for me...our name is Sharp Shooters ....I'd be happy to play some friendly sets with some fellow AZers (if I can get away from the wife, who insisted on coming)

Be there for 9 ball

My team will be there for 9ball (first time for 9ball) We've been there 4 times for 8ball though, so were kind of vetrans. Our team name is "str8shotz". All you first timers are in for a treat, make sure you go to opening ceremonies, its pretty cool the first time. We'll be staying downtown cause when were not playing pool thats where we spend most of our time. When it gets closer maybe we can coordinate an AZ meeting for a beer or something. Good luck to everyone unless your playing my team:wink:.

I would love to see an AZ meet scheduled...it is always nice to put faces with names and make contacts.

I wish AZ had a booth at the nationals...you could sign up for gold memberships, buy stickers/shirts, identify yourself, ect.

I will be there again with an 8 ball team. Year 4 in a row for us in teams. 2 9s and now 2 8's. So we probably also fall into the veterans category as well. My personal recommendations, if you can get the room money from your league operator instead of doubling up at Riveria, book rooms elsewhere (huge bonus if folks have already been to vegas and get comps or discounts) and then just get monorail passes for the trips down. Everyone seems to have a better time with their own room or at most 2 to a room. Happy players with no drama tend to go much farther. Plus there is a lot more to do and see along with better pools, etc at a lot of the other resorts. Just pick one with a monorail stop its really not a bad walk at that point.

Make sure you pack lotion and sign up for the minis you want 24 hrs in advance because you can always sell them if you get a chance. Riviera food court is pretty good but stay away from the buffets at riviera and circus circus. Rio has a good seafood buffet.

Ill be there for 8ball and masters. We got a strong masters team this year. Team name is "Chink in the armor". Those who know me will get it. "Politically incorrect" might be our backup team name when apa tells us to change it. Good rolls to all who attend.

If you like music, on the weekends, downtown always has several awesome live bands playing different types of music as well as a host of other activities such as light shows. You can openly drink there, and it's a short cab ride.

If you like good food, Circus Circus has a good Steak House. Bellagio still has 1 of the best buffets in Vegas.

I would strongly recommend renting a car. Search and you can rent it for $9 per day. It's worth it and a lot cheaper if you do decide to go places. If you decide to walk, remember that things are much farther than what they seem. So as mentioned, bring comfortable walking shoes.

As Memphis mentioned, if you want to play minis, you should sign up early. You can ALWAYS sell it back.

Some of the local pool halls in Vegas are Cue Club, Pool Sharks, Mickeys, Best Billiards. Cue Club is the closest from the Riv. Pool Sharks has good actions.

Go see a Show. Vegas has some of the best shows in the world.

Most importantly, HAVE A GOOD TIME.
