2014 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

I havent played 14-1 much this year (as other areas of my game had higher priority) so good runs dont come as often as I would like. Anyway my best run this year is 86, also I was able to capture my run of 77 on camera yesterday.

I definitely aim for triple digit run by the end of the year

Marek,

Nice run, I tried to open the link on my iphone and it said the server could not be found. I don't know if it's a bad link, or if it's just not a mobile friendly link. Usually it will tell me if it's not viewable on a mobile device.

Can you check the link, I really look forward to watching your run as I always do !!!

Managed to play maybe the third time this summer. On my second inning, ran 70. Here's the vid. Still profiting from the grip change, but still haven't reached a century yet. I feel it's coming, this run ended on a rushed shot with a heavy amount of inside. Not sure if the ball skidded, but missed it anyway by a mile. No excuses, bad shot :o

Nice club you play in Mikko! The last ball doesnt look like a skid to me (at least huge one), looks like a pure miss, not that you have spent lots of time looking at the angle :D

Yeah, specifying "http://" twice doesn't make the link "faster." :p ;) :D

Will view later (at work at the moment), but in the meantime, congrats!

It doesnt???:eek::eek::eek: Damn!:banghead::D

Had a chance to view -- good patterns! The only thing that got you in trouble was that 3-ball combo at the end. I know that a previous shot nudged a ball over there, and made a two-ball cluster to be a three-ball cluster, but you should've been working on that two-ball cluster long ago. That problem got exacerbated with "age."

What was that sound that was throughout the video, where it sounded like someone was wrestling with a cardboard box? (Or that you had the clothes dryer in operation, with a pair of sneakers bouncing around in it?)

It was cute to hear you talking back to your pet bird. (What kind/breed?) I imagine he/she was criticizing you over your play, and you were telling him/her to play you some? :)

Anyway, good patterns, very nice table (I like the amboyna burl look of the rails), and I know you'll be in the triple digits very soon!

Agreed -- that is a *very* nice club, very modern looking. And spirit-based refreshments very close by, in case of a miss. ;)

I see the grip change you're talking about -- it looks like you shifted the contact point of the cue in your hand to be the middle two fingers, and your wrist is arched forward to compensate. Sometimes experimenting with different grips helps you to break through plateaus!

I didn't watch the whole video (just yet -- I'm squeezing time between conference calls). Good patterns in the racks I've seen thus far, but a couple times you let the cue ball get away from you (fortunately you had insurance).

Will update this post after I've viewed the whole video.

Good work thus far!

My pet bird is monk parakeet aka quaker parrot :D soooo basically it is not an easy task to fully focus on 14-1 as my "green terrorist" is quite an attention seeker:rolleyes: and as a quaker parrot is the only kind which build its own nest so building of the nest was the sound you heard (the camera was positioned on top of his cage :D)

Nice run, you shoot a great game. Your pre-shot routine seems to be real rock solid, and the same from shot to shot. That's very important.

I think why you missed that last shot is because you didn't commit yourself to it like you did with all the rest of the shots.

I think the triple digits are right around the bend if you keep it up !!!

That is one fine looking table you get to shoot on !!

Thanks :)
Yeah, I rushed that, was just glad to have an open shot after the secondary break. I tend to do stupid things after running 60-70. I think I need to concentrate more on basics and my preshot routine when I'm over 50.

Thanks! This particular table is separated from the main playing area with 3 snooker tables and 8 9' pool tables. Spirits and other freshments handily available :)

Yeah, at the moment I'm experimenting with my grip, finding a good balance with my new method of grabbing the cue more all over and still trying to keep the stroke relaxed. I'm not perfectly comfortable with it yet, which can be seen on a couple of shots where I have to draw the rock from an awkward position, I just jab the cueball with a really fast final backswing. Looks horrible :D But I think I'll get to the century this year. Hopefully! :)

Thanks! I agree, there are times when I'm not committing myself enough on certain shots. There are also some issues with my feet placement on me preshot routine, I tend to just squat on the shot, not step forward.

Hey Andy

He's gonna hate me for this but add Mike Fingers to the list, he ran a 73 against me from the break yesterday 8-17 on the Diamond Pro Table at Bayshore Billiards on Long Island.

Really thought he was gonna hit the hundo when a ball skidded on him to end his beautifully played run !!!

Nice Shooting Mike !!!

Although I don't have video and I didn't advance my position in the rankings, I ran 54 in a league match on August 17.

Well played Jim. Looks like the 54 came at just the right time towards the end of the match and put pressure on the opponent. Keep it up.
