2015 World Chinese 8 Ball Masters field looks amazing

Anyone have any idea why Anna Mazhirina was in this event? From what I can tell, she has finished high in a few Euro Tour women's events, but she seemed not to be even remotely of the same skill level as the other players in this event. In her five matches she won 18 games and lost 65 (although, curiously, she got 5 games against Potts!).

Who replaced Shane? He appears in the print and video promo material for this event, but did not play. Could Mazhirina have been a last-minute replacement for Shane? If so, was she the best player available?

Anna is chosen because she represents female, Russians and Russian billiards displine.
And the female players got 2 games handicap, so all the real scores for Anna should be adjust to (-2).

It is offically announced a few weeks before that Chinese Central Television (CCTV) wanted to move the Joy's CUP schedule ahead 5 days for the AsianCup Soccor Game. As we all know, Pool have no barginning power against TV stations, so Joy's had to change all their schedule to Jan 5th to 8th. That lead to Shane having trouble getting a visa to China in time, then Dennis Orcollo got a last mintue invitation to replace Shane. That's what they say on the forum.

Thank you, spartan. So if I hear you correctly, and using USA east-coast time, we'll have just 3 more matches streamed:

• 9:30 pm tonight (Wed.)
• 2:30 am Thurs. morning
• 6:00 am or 6:30 am Thurs. morning

I didn't check your timezone, but there are 2 matches streamed in the morning localtime.
2 more streamed in the afternoon localtime. and the final match will be streamed via the CCTV only.

The rumor is that Appleton quit after the 1st stage, so Li Bo was promoted to the 4th place into the 2nd stage.

The people draw the bracket has little understanding of the conventions of this kind of diagrams, your confusion can be easily avoided by draw two separate brackets for 1-8 and 9-16 with the consolation rounds. such as this http://printyourbrackets.com/8-team-consolation-bracket.html

Quit ? Got some splaining to do !!

Yang is playing like a monster against Potts... 5-3 right now.
They just zoomed in on Yang's cue and it had Earl's signature in bright gold marker on the forearm. Someone's a fan!

It is quiet about this matter in the "official" media. The fact is that Li Bo took the 4th spot from group 1 in the drawing for the 2nd stage. The rules for the tournament explicitly banned player from "quit" or "withdraw" or 'forfeit" in the 1st round-robin stage, however, there was no mention of penalties for quitting after that. I don't know what else Appleton is losing, by quitting his last 3 rounds of matches, he lose a shot at the 9th place prize(3K usd).

One speculation some have is that Appleton is quitting earlier for the other Chinese Billiards world event in China(100K top prize), but that one is scheduled begin at Jan 24th. I guess there shouldn't be any time conflict, since Appleton obviously wish to win both.

Well. There must be a screw up on the scoreboard, the score of the match between Li Bo and Appleton in the 1st stage were put in reverse :o, it has been corrected now.

Li Bo beat Appleton 13:10

So that means Appleton didn't quit, he actully was the 5th place in group 1.

9-4 Yang !!!

Edit: Yang broke dry; Potts ran out. 9-5.

Edit2: Potts broke dry; Yang ran 6 stripes and missed; Potts ran out. 9-6.

Thanks for updates
27 mins left - they average 6 min per rack so can still play 4 to 5 racks so Potts still has chance

The Chinese guy played out of his mind. What a performance !

They both had 4 B&R's, they both missed 5 shots, they both broke dry 3 times.

But Yang ran out all 5 times after Potts' misses. Yang made the 8-ball twice with the jump stick after safeties by Potts.

Potts' 3 dry breaks came in his last 3 break games. Yang's last 3 breaks were B&R's.

I'm not sure how you were timing that. By the match clock, they still had about 47 minutes left at the end of the 20 games. The match clock doesn't run during racking. So by the match clock, they took about 83 minutes for 20 games, or 4.2 min. per game. Just going by the wall clock (counting racking and a time out), the match lasted about 111 minutes, or 5.6 min. per game.

Yang lost 2 matches I think in group stage while Potts was undefeated for 6 straight matches - I think he was only undefeated player. Sometimes It is good to lose some in group stage
Still great performance by Potts cannot 3peat but 2 wins + 1 semi is like 2.25peat -not bad
Potts plays Wang Peng 3 hrs from now 330 PM local (230am EST)
Final after that between Yang Fan and Zheng Yubo

I just subtracted current time from start time 1030am so did not subtract timeout, racking LOL

Li Hui also went undefeated in the group stage, then lost his first match after that.

Did you watch Yang/Melling last night? Yang played well and lost 13-6, with Melling having 7 B&R's in a row. Then 3 hours later the two met again in the second stage and Yang won 13-11.

I think I'd better try to learn a little something about Mr. Yang Fan.
