2019 WPA World 9 Ball - Qatar

It seems as if pool has been kidnapped by those who intend, and are doing their best, to kill it. How much is the ransom? I think I might consider paying it.

When Matchroom first lost this, i told Luke id be in for 10k sponsorship if they brought it back to Cardiff. Then when the market crashed a few years later, i lowered it to 5K

I just turned this dumpster-fire off. Maybe the most depressing thing in pool i've seen in a WHILE. They'll have a clock next year but they(WPA) need to re-locate this event. Everything bad about an event all rolled into one big turd.

I couldn't stand to watch it either.
What I don't understand is why any player would slow down that much. I know if I took 6 minutes before each shot I would be so out of stroke I wouldn't be able to make a ball. Used to be people would try to "ice" their opponent by keeping them in the chair but these guys are icing themselves.

"I actually just saw Fedor Gorst yawn"

LOL.

All those people who defend and coddle slow players - and there are many on this site - this is the ultimate result.

According to the promoter posts on their Facebook page they will have the event there for at least the next two years. :barf:

Ok I got a few questions regarding this.

I'm watching the stream and this is the first I've seen of this tournament. But is this really the world championship for 9 ball? Stream production seems to be as low rent as possible. The players look like they are bored just being there. The stream is dark, cold with no life to it.

Did this thing fall off the face of the Earth and the people promoting it don't care?

Unfortunately pool isn't the only sport whose organizers are blinded by money.

Events like these are a feather in the cap for countries like Qatar. The fact that no one attends in person and the rest of the world doesn't like the ultimate result is irrelevant to them and the people they pay for rights.

I don’t think there were people promoting it. Maybe in the Middle East....

The field is crazy strong, befitting of a world 9-ball championship, but everything else is, at best, second rate. The stream, the commentary, the venue and the lack of energy are an embarrassment to the game.

Just from my unofficial observation, the majority of field was Mid Eastern with not one(going by names) making the final 32
