2021 AZ Billiards Straight Pool Challenge!

It sounds like you are scoring incorrectly. It's 14 for each rack (prior to the break ball for the next rack), not just the first one. That would make it 127 (9 racks plus the break ball for the next one). Heck of a run; congratulations.
lol... Probably. ...and thank you very much. I was extremely happy last night, even though no one else in house grasped why...lol

I have been left to my own devices, so I just did what made sense to me....lol

I've been rolling this over and you are right to a lesser degree, I think :)

So it went like this:
-BIH break shot, and run the rack to break ball = 14 (opening rack score)
-Make break ball, run rack to next break ball = 14 + next break ball =15 (add to rack tally)
-Run the 14 balls after previous break shot = 14 + next break ball =15 (add to rack tally)
-etc...
-Last rack score does not include the break ball for that rack = 0 (in this run)

Now that I read that, it does seem a tad goofy...lol. But it seemed like the easiest way for me to keep track of full racks completed. If I miss a break ball then my final rack tally is 14. I need to pocket the break ball to score 15.

So after recounting with a clearer mind the actual score was 134... I added the last break ball separately as well as in the rack tally.

I need to score this differently I think. I've been doing it this way since I started last year, and I'm still confusing myself...lol

When you make the break ball that is 1. Then there are 14 balls spread all over the table and you make them all except the last one for the next break ball. That is 13 more, not 14 more. For a total of 14, not 15.

Yep get that... However the initial rack may not have had a break ball to being with, so I was counting the break ball as the last of 15, rather than the first of 15. I offset the break ball backward. Which made it the completion of the rack, not the beginning of one. This was just an effort to make one 'tick' equal to one full 15 count. Which it did...

Moving forward I will adopt the traditional and correct way to score. Or never post another pic of my scoring method...lol :)

Regardless my top score board will contain a 134

Correct, 1+13 = 14

Correct, 1+13 = 14
...and 14+1 = 15 ....lol

14 ball rack + the following break ball.

You guys can fill your boots with how you think I should represent the numbers I added. The fact remains that 134 balls were potted without a miss.

Officially here on AZB it can be considered a 120+whatever AtLarge said. Doesn't matter to me.

You only pot 13 of the 14 racked, the 14th becomes your break ball. If you potted all 14 racked, you would not have a break ball left to use to break open the next rack. So for each rack run you pot the break ball plus 13 more makes 14, leaving 1 ball remaining to start the next 14.

If you claim you ran 134 starting with a full rack break ball, you would have missed after running 8 balls in to your 10th rack - 14x9 = 126 + 8 = 134.

I find it hard to believe that anyone capable of running 100+ balls in 14.1 hasn’t figured out that each rack run is 14 balls, not 15. It sounds like you ran 9 full racks plus 1 = 127. At any rate, congratulations, that’s a great run!

sigh...

* "tick" = 15
** "LB" = light bulb

-First rack 14 balls racked, break ball BIH. Break ball and 13 racked balls made. Final score of that rack 14. Running total = 14
-14 balls racked, break ball on table (15). Break ball made 13 racked balls made. Running total (still) = 14
-14 balls racked, break ball successfully made. Running total 14 + 1(tick*) = 29
-14 balls on table. 13 made ( LB**). Running total = 29
-14 balls racked. break ball successfully made. Running total 14 + 2(tick*) = 34

I'll stop there...lol. I appreciate everyone's patience 😪 I left the embrassing walk through of my thought pattern above in hopes to convey my honest mistake. Truthfully..., I expected to complete that list and prove you all wrong my supreme counting skills...lol

At this point I'm not even going to bother thining about it again, and just go with AtLarge's count of 127

..and to completely honest, I'm disappointed at all about the loss of 8 balls on that count. The goal was 100 and I did it.

Here's comes 200. ...and the overhead camera ;)

Thanks again for your patience guys

Either way, that’s great. Congrats on getting there!

Clearly your pool skills are far superior to your math skills - LOL!

The_JV, maybe the following absurdist scenario will help you see why it is 14 per rack.

Suppose you start your high-run attempt by putting an object ball in the center of the head rail, i.e., at the other end of the table from the rack. Then you place the cue ball somewhere and, instead of shooting at that "15th ball," you shoot a magic pack shot to start the run -- one that you (and maybe only you) can make every time. So you make that opening pack shot and then run the rest of those 14 racked balls (now 13) without anything moving that lone 15th ball at the head of the table. The run is now 14. So you re-rack the 14 balls and do the same thing again -- pack shot, then 13 more. And the 15th ball still sits on the head rail by its lonesome, so to speak. The run is now 14 + 14 = 28. And you do that over and over again, never moving that original 15th ball. Let's say you do it 9 times. Your run is now 9 x 14 = 126. Then you make the pack shot again but flub the next shot. Your run is 127, i.e., the same as what you did for your personal best run described above.

By the way, not every rack produces 14 pocketed balls. If you happen to pocket all the remaining balls on the table with your last shot of the rack, the count for that rack is 15 rather than 14. Then all 15 balls are racked instead of 14, and the odds of your continuing the run are not good. In a real 14.1 game, there are a couple other "special situations." This post of mine from a few years ago tells about those: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/checking-the-score-in-14-1-games.460889/

Hindsight is an extremely powerful thing, and mine is crystal clear at this point...lol.

I do appreciate you taking the time to correct my bad methodolgy. (y)

I'm going to practice my numbers and finally set up camera.

Does this mean we'll be seeing a 14.1 video by you? Really curious to see how you've adapted to the game.

Yeppers.... Once I get something set up that's not annoying to capture the video, and vacuum the dog hair off the table...lol
Really curious to see how you've adapted to the game.
Well I guess that means I should post something sooner than later. "Later" being a new personal best. It could be a while before I get back up there again....lol

51 for tonight. Missed an easy break ball, but was pretty flat on it. Not sure it would’ve gone much longer anyway.

I’d like to run 100 but am setting the goal to beat last year’s high of 74 for now.

I lose interest in pool sometimes in favor of other hobbies - guitar, running, cycling etc. The thought of putting in all these hours again is daunting. This game is so tough.
53 last night. Progress lol.
