2022 World Pool Masters (May 5-8)

Yes, like DCC, Deurne City even called the 10-foot event the "Bigfoot Challenge."

It was June of 2016, and Filler beat Marco Teutscher 11-5, Nick Van denBerg 11-9, Nick Ekonomopoulos 11-6, and Jayson Shaw 11-10

btw, Ernesto's in Fargo now doing--amongst others--the Gabriels tables here. He talks fondly of Boone NC
He’s got plenty of experience from with Gabriel’s tables from his visits here. I’ve known Ernesto nearly 25 years, and he’s like family to my wife and I. One of the hardest working humans I’ve known - he won’t stop until the job is complete!

Yes, Albin's resume is superb, especially in the last two years, and two World Pool Championship golds and a silver in this era is almost mind-blowing, given the size and depth of the fields. That said, he hasn't won at the China Open or the US Open, the other two majors in the assessment of this fan. Throw in the 2021 International 9-ball title and we're definitely talking about a hall of famer here, but Filler's resume is much stronger.

Albin's a legend for sure, and I suspect he has more than a few big titles in him going forward.

I would love to know what it is about Filler that makes him such an incredibly accurate shotmaker. He's noticeably better than everyone else in pro pool IMO, including Mr. Eagle Eye himself.

My crackpot theory is that ultra straight shooters never struggled with shotmaking when they started (at least, not to the extent you would expect from complete newbies) and thus never developed any sort of "fear" in their strokes both mentally and physically. They have been supremely confident shooters from day one and potting balls has never required much effort for them, and in fact has only gotten easier and easier over time.
For a crackpot theory you are absolutely right...

The small size of the pockets making the game more random and arbitrary than ever in terms of who going to win. But I guess that’s what they want to make it exciting. Making the game just a flip of a coin in order to determine the winner instead of the better player wins. I mean who wants it to be the better player wins, that’s boring for matchroom I guess.

I’ve said it before and people argued with me but I’ll say it again. Making pockets small will just make it that the lesser skilled player having a chance of beating a world champion that’s all.

It now all depends on the leaves and luck. Good luck to all players may the randomness decides who take this. 👍
Would you tell me how making the pockets smaller will let the less skilled player have a better chance to win ?
