2025 DERBY CITY ALL 3 FINALS ON LAST SUNDAY THOUGHTS....

I am just going hoping to have a semi-decent experience -- it is not the same as it was and it is considerably less fun.

Something overheard at the pool hall just the other day: " Yeah, I'm going to the Derby. Funny thing is that as soon as I get there I want to leave."

On the flip side I also heard:

Player A: "Going to the Derby. Gotta get my haircut."

Player B: "Why?"

Player A: "When I win all, I wanna look good on the banner."

Player B: "Yes, it is up there in perpetuity, lol."

Never been to Derby, know there is no way I could place in money, why go. In my world no reason.

Those who love the Derby great, to me it like Chick A Filet, no way I would try again.

The capping of the One Pocket Event to 400 players will make it very difficult for a mid range player to get through 7-8 rounds. The demise of the Sands Regency, in part was because the Pro's wanted a smaller field to 128 players. Bad move as the Sands event with 20K added went the way of the Do Do Bid.

NFL football on the final Sunday of the DCC.

Who the hell would care about football?

🙄

I’d like someone to set an over/under on how many spectators will be there the whole day on Sunday.

A lot of spectators have checked out and given up their rooms which they have been going back and forth to all or most of the time there. And depending on how far you have to go to get back home there may be more needing a room for the night again.

Is there a wait pay one fee and watch the Derby from start to finish. I’m confused about the pricing on the AcuStats website.
Looks like you can pay the $79.95 which gives you all tables and 10 days. Or you can do the $59.95 that, like DAZN, auto-subscribes you month to month afterwards. Like DAZN, you would have to go in and cancel immediately after you are done watching Derby.

Now, anyone who would do pricing this confusing, I would double check all of that. Sounds a bit shady to me, as if they are purposefully making it unclear what you are actually getting.

This and I usually play 2 of the events but since they are forcing you to get the room for the entire event to get the discount I’m just going to save the 1.5k I spend there and stay home.
Is this new for this year? Last year I went for Banks and the first half of one pocket and was able to use the discounted rate

I'm concerned that DCC Executive Staff will succumb to those outside forces that want to speed everything up especially in the One Pocket Event. Just adding the extra day in and of itself could have kept the event on track with the higher number of entrants. This event needs that higher number to stay relevant in the game we ALL LOVE. We'll see, we'll see how it goes. Fingers crossed.

If any finalists go into Sunday with remaining buybacks, or even worse both finalists of any discipline, Sunday will end up going later than Saturday's did previously. They should have scheduled one pocket earlier, instead of in the middle.

The "Saturday" session has gone to 10:00 AM Sunday for two years in a row. Do you really think it possible that the three finals might take over 21 1/2 hours to complete?

As a veteran of fourteen Derby City Classics, I assure you that buybacks in the finals are rare. If both players get there undefeated, they play an extended race (it happened in 2020 when Corteza and Filler each reached the 9ball final undefeated and played a race to 11 for the title) but it is just one set. If just one player gets there undefeated, there is, at least in theory, a 50% chance of a second set in that final, as was the case a year ago when Filler bought back in the 9ball final against Labutis. Most of the time, both finalists carry a loss into the match.

I'd still say if everything goes wrong, it still won't go past 2:00 AM. Certainly, the scenario nobody wants is a two set one pocket final. I would call finishing the Derby city Classic before midnight on Sunday a measure of success, and if they do, I'll applaud them.

If they, once again, play the 9ball final while both fans and players are yawning frequently, I'll be pretty disgusted and will feel betrayed.

If anyone could do it, Derby City could.

If it goes beyond 11pm I consider it a fail for both players and spectators. And by spectators, I include the greater number of stream viewers, who may, unfortunately, have a job to get to Monday morning. At least if the 9 ball goes into the Sunday morning hours, the players will be able to sleep in for a bit, if they don't happen to be in any of the other finals.

If they want Sunday to be a success, they probably need to end the buybacks going into Sunday and do extended races for the finals.

Yes, well said. I overlooked the needs of those experiencing the Derby on the internet and now concur with your 11:00 guideline.

Yes this is one of the changes they made. I usually play the one pocket and 9 ball. Last year I stayed 7 days. This year if you don’t stay for the whole 10 days you can only get certain days with a discount. The other days were priced at $400 a day for a room. Most of the rest of the year you can get a room there for $89 a day.

Should make it easy to get to work 5 or 6 hrs later at 6am 🤦‍♂️

If I'm going there i want to see the finals, I don't give a crap about day 1. If I'm in a car or on a plane I miss the finals on Sunday.

Nobody watches football all year to skip the superbowl 🤷‍♂️

Stupid decision IMHO

The Super Bowl is on 2/9. The "Championship Sunday" clash is with the NFL conference championship games.

For what it's worth, virtually every Derby City Classic has clashed with the NFL playoffs.

The super bowl wasn't the point lol, it was that people come there all week and only get to watch "regular season" pool matches and then don't get to watch the "superbowl" finals because they have to travel home.

Terrible idea and clearly thought up by people who don't have to work.

I don't watch football and couldn't care less about football lol
