2025 Reyes Cup, Oct 16-19, Manilla. Team Asia vs Team World

Most pool players won't object to an all-expense paid trip that gives them a chance to boost their profiles.
of course they won't
and getting chosen to play is an honor, pay or not pay.
but these events are for the fans and the fans want to see the biggest names and their favorite players and I can think of the better lineup to the ROW team.

The only substitution I would make, in my perfect world, is Filler for Woodward.

I would not add SVB given his seeming ambivalence to the Mosconi. He would be the better marketing choice, but maybe not the better player choice.

A case for Eklent Kaci could be made to add a whole lot of spice.

instead of faulting the players, they should do a better job at planning the year and not overlapping events.
Scheduling is bound to result in conflicts if WNT and WPA keep expanding, as they say they will.

Even if the two entities communicate well, there are only so many prime dates in the calendar. They also have to contend with established events not entirely controlled by them (Derby, Chin Open, International, etc).

That said, there is some trouble in paradise.

Put Filler aside. He sided with WPA/Predator last year and is keeping his distance from Matchroom. That’s his choice.

The latest cracks in the WNT/MR armor involve Shane Van Boening, the Kaci brothers and the Ko brothers.

SVB opted out of Vietnam for Bali and WPA 8 ball. Matchroom clearly did not expect or anticipate that.

The Kaci brothers also opted for Bali. Kledio was in second place for the Mosconi automatic qualification when he made his choice. So he turned down a likely chance to make the Mosconi.

How often has that happened? No surprise, but Kledio is sponsored by Predator. So is big brother.

Finally, the Ko brothers. They opted for the “Duya Legends” heyball event in China. Still ongoing.

How come? Prize money. The top prize is 280,000 US dollars. The overall pot is about $780,000.

Both Ko brother appear to have advanced to the mid/later stages of the event, but I can’t tell just how much.

China and heyball is another thing WPA/Predator and WNT both have to contend with.

These should be the dream teams.
All seasoned pedigree.
All top 15 Fargo.
All have won majors.
All have won multiple World titles except for Yapp and Chua

Solution is easy, work together, joint resources and plan a full year. All events could be WPA sanctioned and MR are better on the production side.
It's a win win

Anyone knows what is the prize this year?
Last year was $15K each for losers and winners https://matchroompool.com/reyes-cup/the-inaugural-reyes-cup-event-guide/ which is silly. Don't know any event where everyone get same prizemoney.
No word yet. I expect the fund to be bigger. Last year it was $150,000 - or $15,000 for every player.

The prize fund this year might be raised to $200,000. The winners are supposed to get more money, just like with the Mosconi.

It would work out to $25,000 per player on the winning team vs $15,000 for those on the losing team.

Hope AJ doesn't cost his teammates $10,000 apiece!

Panazzo made similar suggestions in the latest issue of Billiards Digest.

Odd thing is, nobody will directly ask Frazer/WNT/Matchroom or WPA/Predator why they don't work together. I know the sport has little media coverage, but come on!

So why did/do players play? I am sure honor and prestige play a role, but the Ryder Cup makes big players even bigger, and can help turn lesser names into bigger names. That means more fans and followers and bigger marketing and advertising opportunities.

It can be a quite lucrative thing.

The Mosconi is no different. I would argue that success in the Mosconi is just as big, in marketing terms, as winning a "World" title. It's the most watched event in pool by players and fans.

Most pool players won't object to an all-expense paid trip, with a guaranteed payout, that gives them a chance to boost their profiles.

I have one final sponsor patch spot available on my jersey, a great opportunity for a brand to gain visibility both on-site and across my social media channels throughout the Reyes Cup.
If your company is interested in joining me for this exciting event, please reach out (PM) as soon as possible. We need to lock it in quickly.
Let’s make it happen!

i can think of several players i'd pick over SVB, some that would be underdogs against him in any other circumstance
