2025 Southwest Cues

News flash

The days of buying a SW and selling it for double are long gone. Laurie adjusted her pricing in a very smart way for her and her customers.

There’s some meat left on the bone of course. So zero risk buying a SW from SW if you had the foresight to get your spot. However the days of 25%-50% profit the next day after getting your cue is over with. She got the maths spot on given the current market on SW’s.

Barry Szam used the same formula for ever, Gus as well.

The cue makers who want $ up front are the ones who usually have bad resale. Not always, but often they do. Or they just don’t make the cue…..some of us know about that as well.

Fatboy<——-buys and sells cues

Nobody gets hurt. It’s optional to take part and no money changes hands until the order is actually placed when your number comes up.

Southwest and Laurie are honest their product is high-quality and did I mention nobody gets hurt :-)

There is no problem

What was the error? Still looks awesome
On the bottom, it was supposed to have just the veneers not the "double rail road". The error that was made was actually a $150 (i think) option. I didnt care about the money, but I would have preferred it the way I ordered it.

The one on the left is what I wanted and the one on the right is what I got. After a 19 year wait, I was disappointed it wasnt as I ordered.

The one they made for you looks better. They made an executive decision and changed it.

I wouldn't have accepted it. Looks too much like the mali long butt caps from the eighties.

I hope I didn't insult you, just the first thing that came to mind. It's beautiful otherwise, and sometimes little things add character that beauty can't.

I wish I could hit a SW. I hit a joss west and it felt good but not thousands of dollars better than my own cues. I hit a scruggs sneaky and wondered what the hoopla was about. Ended up buying a new Runde that day because that cue felt great. I've got a barnhart, gilbert, pierce, runde. They all hit well. Better than the scruggs I hit. How does the SW hit in comparison to others?

Hit a couple. Beautifully made. Made to other peoples spec, not my own. Can't say they are thousands of dollars better than the old Mezz I used before. But they are very happy people (not sure it's justifying the money spent or genuine). two or three of the players are better than me, and they speak highly of their cue. Many average players here buy them as a status thing.

From what i get from David Siltz, he doesn't hit it as well as some of his other sticks but still likes it. I think they are like scruggs. A cult following and hit is not that important.

Kind of like Zen cues here in China then. It's beautiful, and it has a great hit. But is it the best hit in the known universe?

It's fun to try out cues from different makers. Sometimes you pick one up, hit a ball, and it feels more like a wand than a cue. But, and this dead horse has been beaten beyond recognition, a cue's hit is very subjective and personal. I've hit with cues from absolute top tier makers that just didn't do it for me. There was nothing "wrong" with them. They just weren't what I prefer. But I've also played with my buddy's plain old blue stained maple Viking that hit as good as any cue I've ever held. It even got its shaft broken and repaired and STILL hit great. On top of that, there's a very high likelihood that any Southwest you might get to hit with, hits completely different than one somebody else has. Beyond the differences in wood, which is a significant contributing factor, they offer multiple shaft tapers. And there's also a very good chance that the tip has been changed on whatever cue you might get to play with. All of those will absolutely affect the cue's hit. But, again, it's still fun to take them for a test drive.

When it's all said and done, I know for a fact that there are $200 cues out there that play as good or better than a lot of $2,000+ cues. It all comes down to what a person enjoys and appreciates. On top of that, I'm never going to judge someone for spending their money on something they like.

Like I said all you naysayers will be buying one if given the chance.

I see the price is always brought up. If it cost the same as a Mezz then nobody would be complaining.

So it all comes down to price for a lot of critics. You either can afford it or you can't. When I say this, I've already assumed everyone can afford one. If you can buy a car or home then you can certainly buy a cue for the fraction of a car/home. Envy is a real thing.

Plus these arguments never work with price.....the Dick's Sporting Goods cue guy thinks a Players cue is too expensive. Players guy think Mezz are too expensive. Mezz guy thinks Predators are expensive. The Predator guy with his $3,000 cue may think a $5k cue is expensive. Unless someone is playing with a house cue, a price is never a good argument to make against a cue maker or brand.

If I ask politely, demonstrate I will treat with respect another person's playing cue. More often than not, I get to try and satisfy my curiosity.

To me it only seems like you who is having "arguments".

I just looked and if I'm reading it right, you joined azb just two months ago and already have 2231 posts. I'm curious, has anyone suggested that you might be another prolific poster who has frequented azb? Forgive me if this has previously been discussed.

It's been discussed and I'm driving my post count up so I can sell cues.

A guy that is always here, is the reputation. I got nowhere to go or hide. You can always find me here to answer questions. LOL

I just took a closer look which I should have done prior to my last post and now see you are a regular poster in NPR which explains your high post count.

You're a more courageous man than me. 😉(y)
