P.S Efren seems to get a lot of these shots made.. I knew he will come up most of the time
Thanks. I’ll GIF this tomorrow and add you among the ranks of Efren, Shaw, Deuel, Dechaine, and Melling. That’s nice company.

Catch you later,
Dave

Does anybody else have any match or game videos showing yourself making shots like any of those in BU Exam III (shot diagrams, video demos). If so, please post them.

Thanks,
Dave

Good points. I agree.

Which do you think are the toughest, and which do you like the most?

Thanks,
Dave

I have not looked too carefully through the shots, but I do like the one Sam shot where she drew the cueball to the short rail then spun into a tight spot between a few balls to get on the two. I think it was past 5th shot but not as far as 10th.

I do think that for a B+ player like myself I will have a tough time with most of those getting them on the first try even on a well setup table.

I had an idea to do during a tournament I help run, a challenge shot setup on a table for some extra $$, like a break and run pot but this is to setup a tough shot and have players try it. Whoever succeeds gets the money. I think it will help players learn shots and one of my goals for the tournament is to make sure that newer and weaker players improve and not just act like money donators to the better players.

"A9 – Inside Draw for Position" is one of my favorites because it is the approach I use for target position 4 in drill F8 of BU Exam I. Here's an example from https://youtu.be/b-pb8rEkL5E?t=31m21s:

Some of the shots might surprise you after some practice. Many of them are not as tough as they might look.

That's a good idea. Feel free to use printouts from the BU Exam III shot diagrams document, and you can suggest they watch the video demonstrations if they want to learn the shots.

Thanks for the comments,

Great idea and video.

Dr. Dave has become the Nic Barrow of the pool world. I feel like reading/watching and practicing the material that either of these guys puts out probably won't make you a pro, but it will certainly improve your game.

Thank you.

FYI, if you literally practiced ALL of the material I have put out (in every YouTube video, in all of the 30 DVDs, in all of my BD articles, in every NV and HSV video on my website, in every section of every FAQ page of my website, etc.), it would take a staggering amount of time. And if somebody actually practiced this impossible amount of time, they would probably have a good chance to reach pro level. And somebody with the dedication, motivation, drive, focus, and physical ability to do this probably has what it takes to be a pro.

Dave

Looks good. One of my favorite examples of one of these shots in a game was Mike Dechaine:

Actually it might be interesting to collect examples of people using some of these shots in game situations.
Do you have a source link for this one?
I included it in a subsequent post.
I just read through the entire thread again and couldn’t find a video link for this shot. I’m sorry if I missed it again. Could you please post it again if it is not too much trouble?
Sorry it must have been a different one. Here’s the correct one, just before the 38-min. mark.

I would have played just straight draw or a bit off the cushion with low right on that shot, seems a bit of extra travel and spin that is needed.

Here's a great example of "A14 – Inside across the Table" from https://youtu.be/XfRx5w-D3fE?t=36m8s that somebody posted on Facebook:

That particular shot can be horrible-hard on a table with sticky cushions.
Agreed. The angle into the 1st cushion is also critical.

Are players permitted to "help" the cue ball?
I think waxing (or even Silicone Spraying ) the CB is acceptable if you are playing on a really "sticky" cloth where some of the shots might not be possible. It will certainly make the draw, masse, and jump-draw shots easier.

BTW, thanks again for the help with BU Exam III. I have a few shots in there that you recommended (in some form). You also suggested the scoring system.

I've practiced all methods for this shot over the years, and I always get the best stats with the inside draw approach. I like a full draw stroke, and the killing action of the end rail is helpful. But I know this might not the best approach for all people.

Here it is:

That's very "low percentage," but nice shot!

Thanks again,
Dave

PS: Please let me know if you find other BU Exam III shot examples in pro match videos. Thanks!

PS: Here's a similar shot by Melling from https://youtu.be/5k5ngITpAs4?t=5m4s:
