One of the local poolhalls uses Cuetec. They're pretty durable and most still have the original tip from 10 years ago. The only issue I see is the finish wears off the first 6-8 inches, leaving an ugly white layer exposed.

Played in a pool room recently that had some Lucasi one piece cues.
VERY nice for a house cue.

In addition, I have to say that if you have kids keep this in mind: Starting in the 1800s they started making cue racks that hold 12 cues. If you have 12 cues with kids using them, they will all slowly get trashed until there is just one cue left, and then they will take care of that one. So why not just start out with only one or two cues available to them? They don't have to know you have the rest in the attic.....
 
I have a couple of these too. Nice finish and very good hit.

We have purchased three new Brunswick Tru-Balance cues for our club and I'm really happy with them. They are not cheap and it's true that they are now being made in China, but the quality is very good and they hit solid. I'm not sure if they would be able to compete with the one piece Hueblers, but I'll recommend them over the Valleys I've tried.

Sterling. They feel good and the stay straight and they last a long time.

One time at a trade show I went around to a couple local pool rooms that had Sterling house cues which were several years old. I pulled the cues off the wall and put them up at the trade show alongside the testimonials from the room owners. When they hold up in a commercial setting then you can certainly depend on them for your home room.

However another thing you might want to consider is to get some nice two-piece cues.

Check out the other Sterling cues at www.cuesight.com and I bet you can find some that would look great with your room and still fit the budget.
