Short answer, it should. The main difference between 'regular' and 'modified' is in regards to the minor diameter of the threads.

The issue of fit usually comes with a 'modified' pin going into a 'regular' shaft. The minor diameter of the modified pin is larger than the minor diameter of the bore in the shaft, meaning the shaft will need to have the bore opened up a little to match the minor diameter of the pin.

Here is a page from Bob Dzuricky where he goes in to some detail to explain it.

Probably not

But it is fairly easy to modify the threaded hole in your cue butt with a reamer so it will.

Your standard 3/8-10 pinned shafts will also still work just fine.

Dzcues website explaines the difference between the two threads nicely.

a 3/8-10 mod jp stud went into my 3/8-10 regular shaft easily enough

An explanation w/pics clear and precise.Would make any toolmaker proud.
Well done DZcues.

I am considering buying a cue butt which, apparently, has a 3/8x10 modified pin. It does not come with a shaft. Looking at Mezz shafts, I see they are available in 3x8/10 and Wavy. I read in a Mezz shaft thread that the Wavy thread should fit this just fine. Based on the information above, it looks like the 3x8/10 would fit well, too. For those who know, would one be preferable for a snug fit?

Thank you,
Ryan

I have an OB butt with the modified 3/8 x10, and an old mcdermott gcore shaft with astandard 3/8x10 threads. I tried putting the gcore shaft onto the ob butt, but it felt very tight and i didnt want to force it. Are they indeed not compatible?

The DZ shaft on my DZ cue fits on my McDermott cues, but the McDermott shafts will not fit the DZ

I guess it's no problem making a standard 3/8x10 fit a 3/8 modified. I talked to Jacoby about this as I wanted a 30" Ultra shaft to use on my McDermotts like I have for my Schons with Ultras. Asked them if it would work on my Dz also and they said yes but they would have to drill or ream out the inner diameter of the standard 3/8x10 slightly. I live close by so they asked if I got one to bring my DZ to them to make sure it fit.

I have a Mike Durbin Cue with his "G10" Joint. My "research" has me believing, perhaps incorrectly, that the G10 is the same dimension as a Standard 3/8 X 10 Pin? This is the first I've heard of a Modified 3/8 X 10 pin? WIth the Durbin Cue came 3 shafts (2 x 13mm), 11.5mm and a Predator Revo 12.4mm. The Revo always gets loose, so that has me thinking it was honed for perhaps a different Pin than the G10? I'll have to compare from the pictures provided in this thread to determine what Type Pin the G10 is and then see if I could see down the THreads of the Shaft to see if they are deep cut (Standard) or Flat Cut like the "Modified".

You guys are the bomb! Just picked up an Arial Carmeli with a 3/8-10 modified joint pin and I would like a carbon shaft. Any suggestions on where to get a carbon shaft with this modified female joint? Danke Schön!
