3/8x10 modified pin question

Anyone? Anyone? Where is Royce on this one as I am really curious as to what OB is doing?

OB is using a modified 3/8-10. I can tell you from experience that their stock shaft fits my McDermott butt, but it's a snug fit. It's not tight enough that it felt wrong, but I would personally order a shaft with 3/8-10 were I to get one for my McD. Other 3/8-10 bolts may be different, but those particular ones are tight.

How could you know unless you're paying close attention to everything? The only reason I know is I recently bought an OB after searching far and wide for an LD shaft/cue that didn't feel like mush, so I took in a lot of info about a lot of different cues and happened to see that.
 
Why do people always have to try and reinvent the wheel? What was wrong with the standard 3/8x10 pin setup that has been used for years that they had to go and design a 3/8x10 modified pin?

Because the modified pin touches more of the wood. You can buy a tap for $30 or so btw.

I have an old Mcdermott D4 with the standard 3/8 x 10 and I have an Oak Titlist conversion with a modified 3/8 x 10 and I use a predator z2 shaft. My predator shaft screws on to either cue with no problems.
 
OB and Tiger both fit both pins. They tap the shaft with enough room to easily fit the modified pin. The difference between the standard pin and the modified pin is the minor diameter. Mezz shafts in 3/8x10 DO NOT fit the modified pin straight from the factory. I had to put my WX900 on a lathe and use a drill bit to bore it out a little bit wider. It didn't take much. Mezz makes their shaft to conform with a very snug fit, and being that the minor diameter of a standard 3/8x10 is slightly smaller than the minor diameter of the modified pin, it has to be drilled out to fit the slightly wider minor diameter of the modified pin.
 
In response to a sudden flurry of inquiries, I added a few lines to the bottom of the page describing the modified pin. I hope it helps explain why not all 3/8-10 pins interchange perfectly. It is still an easy fix.

The 3/8x 10 modified looks like a stronger joint........

But in all honesty I have never had a issue with the 3/8x 10 pin..
