3 fouling an 11 year old

About 10 years ago I played in the World Open (chess) and I wasn't in contention in my section anyway so it didn't make any difference whether I won or drew. The kid I was playing was probably @11 or 12 and his parents were right there in the tournament hall. At one point he had a clearly lost position and he went over to his mother and started crying. So, I played a few more moves and offered him a draw. He was ecstatic. And I have regretted that ever since. I felt good about it that night. But that is the exact wrong lesson. I should have stepped on his neck and choked the life out of him. Not only should you have 3 safed this kid, you should have insulted his mama and taken his lunch money too. That is the only way to build a future Shane Van Boening.

" We do not train to be merciful here..." LOL

You play the kid as you would anyone else.... if he sticks with it....soon he will be 3 fouling you.....

Plus, good chance the kid learned a shot on the process?
Maybe one day, he says...i won the us open with that shot.

About 7 or 8 years from now, be on the lookout for a young guy who will have a score to settle with you.

Lesson learned. I think you did fine. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
I would 3 Foul Helen Keller to win. So maybe I should not have answered.

Maybe the correct lesson was learned and maybe not. I hope the kid picked it up himself, or somebody explained it.
