30" shaft weights

I'd like to get a 30" shaft made for a McDermott cue. Do 30" shafts generally weigh more? I'd also like some more weight up front and about 4.2oz. would be about right. Any thoughts?

No, the longer they are, the lighter they get.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist. No offence, but this has to be the dumbest question I've ever read here!

That all depends on the density of the wood used, the taper and tip size.
A 30 inch shaft can be lighter than a 29 inch shaft, or it can be weighted to be heavier.
The material selection would have the biggest impact weight wise.

I had Dave Kikel make me one and asked for it to be 4.2 ozs. It came exactly that and I really like it, actually I have not used my 29" shafts since getting it...

I'm sorry for asking a dumb question, but shaftmakers like Predator,OB,Tiger, etc, don't indicate what the weight of their shafts are. I was just wondering if they were generally made to be the same weight or not. Please excuse my ignorance.

If you give Predator a weight they will try to match it. You will never get a shaft from them that is over 4.0oz. Maybe a fat shaft but I never seen one that heavy.

most shafts are going to vary a lot as the wood density varies from piece to piece. a custom maker can pick out a piece for you if a specific weight request is made. from production, you'll either need to go and weigh some stock if you have access to a store, or find a retailer that is willing to weigh some for you. i have found that the OB shafts are pretty consistent in weight, I believe due to the way they are constructed with many thin veneers, which reduce the overall variance. mezz shafts are also very consistent, around 4-4.3 oz, as they are very careful in their wood selection. but all the rest you will find a pretty wide variation in shaft weight.
