314-2 vs 314-3

Is there anybody out there that went from a 314-2 to a 314-3. Or anybody shoot with a 314-3. If so what do you think. Is it as great as Predator says it is??? Just thinking about going to one and wanted to know if it was worth the money. Thanks. Michael

I recently had a 314-2 replaced through warranty repair. They sent me a 3, as there was a wait to get another 2 due to the threading required.

I don't find much difference in the way the two played. I can tell that there is less mass in the tip of the 3 when I chalk, as it feels less rigid. I can't tell much of a difference when I am playing. I had no adjustment period. I do find that the ferrule on the 3 is slightly shorter, and I find that the shaft and ferrule get dirty and hold chalk much worse than the 2 did.

I just won the Poison cue in the last AZB drawing. I have 2 older Pre Cat shafts. a Z and a 314. Plus, one 314 - 2 from a Pred Sneaky.

I used the Pre Cats on my Schon cues. I know that others have said that they feel the Preds have a rather dead hit.

The Poison came with a 314 - 3 shaft. I am far from an expert on this type of thing but for the 3 games that I played last night, I would say that it is much livelier than the others.

I obviously will be putting it thru its paces much more in the near future. But I like it. The Pred shafts do exactly what they claim they can do so as long as it can do that, I'm happy.

No hall left in town so difficult to just rent a table by yourself and test out cues like we used to do. You know, just set up shots for yourself and go to town.

There is one Private Club in town that bought one of the tables from the old hall. So we were thinking on buying a couple of memberships so we can play on it.

Likely bring out my old Pre Cats with the Schon, or my Sneaky, and the new cue with the 3 and test them together.

The new 3 is the same price I believe as the old 314's so no harm in giving one a try out if that is the way you want to go.

A guy showed me a Falcon last night with a new shaft. I think that just about every production cue company has some sort of an LD shaft going on.

I bought 3 Players HXT shafts a couple of moons ago. I like them just fine and so did all the other players that gave them a try out. I got one with a 12 mm and one with a 12.75 mm. I bought one for another player but didn't take it when they came in, so got stuck with an extra. I think that I got a sale for the spare last night.

My main playing shaft is a 314-1 with cat. I love it. I have tried the 314-2 and didn't care for it, granted I only shot with one and it could have been the tip that was on it. (Others have also said they did't like going from the original 314 to the 314-2. I recently had a chance to shoot with the 314-3 that by buddy just bought brand new, and I really liked it. I was able to move the cue ball around pretty effortlessly and able to apply lots of English while still pocketing the object ball. Hope this helps.

The 314-2 felt much more hollow.

Yes, Hollow was the word that I was looking for, and typed Dead instead.

I would say the new 3 was far from Hollow.

I haven't used my Pre Cats for some time. I take the Pred Sneaky to the bar on occasion
other than on a League Night. Even at that, I don't go out as much as I used to.

No real Hall so have to endure the bar patrons. Guess I'm getting too old or have had my time in the bars. Just not into it as much these days.

I have played with the 314-2 since it came out. I tried the 314-3 at the BCA and APA in Vegas over the summer. On both occasions, I found it to be very dull and lifeless, and I believe allowed this to cloud my judgement of any of the other qualities.

More recently I tried one with a Kamui tip on a Southwest butt, and it hit great. I only hit a few balls but I liked it.

Then just a couple weeks ago, I tried one on my own butt (Andy Gilbert) and a very expensive Darren Hill butt. Wow the thing played amazing on both. It also had a Kamui medium brown. I absolutely loved it and bought one! The hit is fantastic, more solid I'd say than the 314-2. Also, the cueball squirt is noticably reduced. I felt like I could go crazy on the english and still pocket balls at will. My conclusion is that the Predator tip is not very good. I really don't like the feel of it at all. However, with a Kamui tip that shaft totally came alive, and played amazing. I would say it is worth the upgrade!

Just an awful hit period!!! If i was forced by gun to play with one it would have to be with a softer tip. With the 314-3 , the harder the tip , the more you feel like your playing with a wooden straw. To add, the ferrule is a chalk magnet and within a solid week of playing, the shaft looks 40 years old. IMO, stick with the 314-2 .

So, I started with the 314-3, and recently bought a 314-2, and I have a kamui black SS on the 314-3, and a brown SS on the 314-2.

I like how the 314-3 feels more physically to hold. It feels heavier, and the taper feels thicker and more solid.

BUT

I think the hit on the 314-2 is nicer. It feels like it transfers energy better and I have to work less hard to move the ball around. It could be because it's lighter.

I also think the 314-2 gives more feedback. If I could get used to the shaft thickness, my money would be on the 2.

I have heard some of the complaints are due to the predator tip. Curious if you shot with one using the factory tip.

I played with a 314/3 at the expo and it didn't hit that much different then my 324/2 to make the change

I play with the predator soft victory tips and like how they play a lot more then what was on it as new. I still can't find a tip I love as much as the old moore tips. It's a shame they went to hell.
