34th TEXAS STATE 9 BALL CHAMPIONSHIPS - AUG. 31st - SEPT. 3rd

I don't play at JR POCKETS....lol thanks...I play at Diamonds in Dallas and run the tournaments there..as far as pool halls go I worked for the biggest pool hall in Dallas for two years (CJs..but yeah what kind of pool hall was that???Oh yeah it's where everyone went for years and years for action...) and the biggest one in Springfield, Mo..for three years..and I've been running tournaments off and on the whole time, so thanks....I never worked for JR Pockets (It's a hole in the wall that I was stuck in for a while since I moved to Denton) as in no where else to play.....Now I drive 45 Minutes four times a week to play on good equipment...but that's not loyalty to the game is it??? If you Didn't happen to notice a quarter of the fianl 16 was from Dallas.......Hmmm...

The Big Boys were there for the cash not the tournament...lol

I hope you didn't work in or manage JR Pockets, because if you did you have a long way to go when it comes to what is considered good tables

Yes, Zach was at JR Pockets. He's now at Diamonds, which will be a great Texas Open venue when they add about 25 tables.

And no one who knows anything would ever say that JR Pockets is a better pool hall than G-Cue. It was a dump when I was student in Denton (ca. 1986) and it isn't much better now. I can only imagine the problems it would face if it tried to host over 100 pool players for 4 days.

It might be fair to say that nearly 150 players taxed the resources of G-Cue (and about 99% of all pool halls in Texas), but it isn't like venues are lining up offering there tables and added money.

The tournament is where it is every year. You go, pay your money and play. If it sucks don't play next year. Over 100 players thought enough to make it out.

My bet is there will be as many or more next year.

Probably so...It's a good tournament...I just mentioned the problems everyone was talking about...when I get pissed about crap then yeah I talk about it...By the way Mr. Mckinney Miner G Cues only had 11 tables going in the place....with proper time management anything can be done...Diamonds has 8 tables but I would be willing to bet that I could have the tournment over in two days running it from 9:00 AM to 2:00AM with the players meeting the night before..If you go early and late on Saturday and Sunday then Monday wouldn't even be an issue...

Yes, you are right. The money in pool is rarely even very exciting. But, that be changing here pretty quickly. A little Birdy told me this morning.

If your going to throw in as much money as they did for the Texas Open, you want it to run longer for the money your trying to recoup, plus when your playing races to 9 you need a break in between, unless you intending on playing a little race to 3 or something. What are smoking over there anyway?

Of course they liked the tables...lol...they pockets were huge....If I was a pro player I'd love them to lol...

Everything I said above was something from me or something a lot of other players were commenting on...The difference is I just don't hold it in...If you want to hate me for it then great...I'll speak for the players if they won't come out and say it in person...the problem is over 3/4 of the players aren't involved with AZ Billiards....and second everyone that is on here likes to kiss everyone elses butt that is on here....(EX...Big Tournament Directors)...By the way someone just said the tourney ended at 5:30 AM...Yikes...The youngest player won....lol...Silver's a great player...but I'm sure at 5:30 in the morning rest and strength became a huge factor..By the way it was 113 in the Open and 22 in the Womens...Two Different Tournaments...

David G's eyes were beet red last night...yeah that's a normal smoke level...stop saying stupid crap

Actually, they said they liked the speed of the tables. That's what I was referring to.

I don't kiss anyone's ass, I speak my mind, also, but I also remain professional about it and can make points without being rude. You should listen to some of the other posters... it really is good advice.

To be honest, the more you talk $hit about other pool rooms and tournaments makes me not to want to play in one of your tournaments. Not that you care if I show up, I'm just trying to make a point that the rude comments will reflect badly on Diamond Billiards and the tournaments you run.

There would be a break with eight tables do you think someone would just up and play again...I'm just saying it should have started earlier and ended later on Saturday and Sunday...Pool players have families and jobs also...you have to take that into consideration..And yeah fortunately the last 6 players probably just play pool for a living(In this last case this weekend), but what happens if some guy happens to play the best pool of his life, but has to leave because he has to be back at work on Tuesday morning? Because his job is what supports his family????Look how big the crowd was by 12:00 last night...

You and Paul ran a GREAT tournament! I know it was tough with so many players in the Open division on 11 tables, and 22 women who can cry better than anyone. :) BTW - BIG thank you to Stones (aka, Paul) for putting me on the front table Saturday afternoon!

Lewis and Paul helped me out on several occasions with requests, and I appreciated the quick actions by them both. Gary and Kevin were also very supportive the whole event, bringing in extra cooks and staying around the whole time.

Again, LOVED the wi-fi! :)

Free Pool at Diamond's compliments of Zack

Since a lot of us are in the dark about the fabulous tables they have at the pool hall that you run (Diamonds) , maybe you should give us all free pool at Diamonds to get us there and see what were all missing?

Is pool free anywhere else???? Hmmmm.....no....maybe you should just come down on a Saturday or Sunday and pay the flat rate of $20 from open to close or $7 from 1-7....Hmmm for Tables that were used at the Derby City Classic that's pretty darn good....

funny you mention this because being a native Texan myself, i think the honor of the win of this event is much more important than the money.

You know, it doesn't matter what type of equipment you have, some are going to like it, some aren't. That is just the way it is.

It's the Texas State Open.! It is supposed to be crowded, there are spupposed to be issues to deal with. It is not a normal week. It is going to be warmer than usual because of all the body heat. It is going to be smokier because, obviously, there are more smokers. There are going to be issues about bracketing and playing times, because, there were 135 players, not 25 or 26.QUOTE]

agreed, agreed, agreed.

Good job at the Texas Open! With helping out & in the tournament. You didn't get all the way to the end, but you got very close, Good Job!!

you have obviously never been to the Houston Open - i sure do love that tournament, but when i went in the past, i could cough smoke up for days after and i don't smoke. it is just the nature of the beast - if smoking is not banned in the state, what are you gonna do about it?

Thanks, Ricky. I wish I would have played better the final day, but that's the way it goes.

Actually I went to the Houston Open Last year and I didn't think the smoke was nearly as bad as it was at Gcues this past weekend

Houston we have a problem

things must have gotten a whole lot better since I have been there - definitely a plus. like I said, it is one of the events I have always enjoyed - the owners are very supportive of the game and I appreciate that aspect.

as far as G-Cues goes, I have been there - it is a smaller place, but the tradition of the event is more important than the size of the room - in my opinion. the people that put on these events put in countless hours of work and not to mention money that won't get re-couped. you are most definitely entitled to your opinion regarding the room conditions, etc., but these guys made it happen yet another year in a row. if you think you can do better, start your own event and see if you pull the same talent, etc. it takes a long time to build that kind of following.

IT'S A BET FOR ANY AMOUNT YOU WANT!

You know your money is safe for the simple reason of getting a 135 players to attend an event you're running!
