I have never seen how the tables are heated. I have two questions: What effect does it have on the table and secondly where would you buy one (or more, if needed?). I have an old 1920's BBC table. Thanks Bob H.

The commercial heating systems I've seen have been similar. The frame of the table and the slate forms a box with the slate as the top and no bottom. A piece of plywood is added just below the frame to form a closed box. Heater wire is mounted to the top of the plywood so it's inside the closed box. A transformer and thermostat are added. The maximum power rating is about 600 watts (5 amps in the US), but I think the average power is below that. The slate is only 5-10 degrees above room temperature.bobalouiecda said:
Maybe someone who has done a retrofit can speak up. Since you are attaching a heating system to partly flammable furniture, care is indicated.
The heat drives out the moisture in the cloth and makes it play faster and more consistently.
