3M-10 glue to recover rails??

Has anyone ever tried to use 3M-10 glue instead of staples to re-cover rails? I think it would hold OK everywhere except around the ends where the cloth is pulled really tight. A few staples would have to be used in certain spots but for the most part the glue would do the work. Might be an off the wall idea but if it works it sure would make it easier to remove the cloth down the road. No staples would also mean no more wood replacement on the underside of the rails

Only problem with that is the build up of glue...which in turn is going to raise the nose height of the cushions...and the lack of being able to scrape off the excess glue because of taking wood off with it...and glue remover is going to turn the glue into a goo mess.

Speaking of glue removal, I experimented with this tool on my last cushion replacement. This abrasive wheel, along with a heat gun, will make short work of removing old contact glue and it does not damage the wood. I couldn't believe how easy it stripped the glue off the subrail! You can find these @ Walmart for about $8. Money well spent IMO :grin-square:

There is a spray adhesive remover by 3M that'll knock your socks off when it comes to getting the glue to come off:D
