So, I had a good hour or two researching this pin on the forum last night. I already knew it was a bit of a pig, but also in some cases not... but learned a big lesson about paying 'due diligence' yesterday, and wish I did the research before, as I assumed the modified 3x8-10 would be pretty easy to accommodate. Here it seems it is quite complicated to find, and most custom makers here seem to be using 3x8-11 from what I can ascertain (Zen Custom style pin). I asked many sellers on the buying platform, but language barrier made this hard to truly explain (they refer to pins using different terminology and it doesn't really make sense in translation)
Anyway, the reason I put a bit of time into researching last night was because I drove an hour in a taxi to meet someone to try a shaft out yesterday (Musashi ACCS M) to use on a Larry Vigas custom I picked up, as I want to keep the two shafts it came with fresh and nice. The shaft was listed as 3x8-10, which it may well have been, but it wasn't correct fit to the modified pin...
I even asked Larry previously, and thought I'd clued myself in enough about what I was looking for... apparently not...
Luckily, time was not wasted. Made a new friend and found a new spot to play, which was saving grace of the day! Paid for the light fee, as I felt bad for wasting the guys time.
I went home, and spent some time searching the forum... lots of half complete threads on this topic... I think @garczar had posted a link to Dzuricky website that was the saviour for me. I was able to screen shot the image, and send this along with a picture of my pin (edited the picture to show the thread count... as a couple friends were determined to tell me it must be 3x8-11 still...
)
After the research, I shared what I learned with the guy I met to explain why I'd made a mistake, and why his shaft didn't work for me... and he really helped me out big time! He put me in touch with a guy who can re-tap some existing shafts that I have to the correct thread - but also someone with some shafts that can be used (will pick up a Musashi VI 'made for a McWorter' which matches the pin, and also a Fuhjin, made by KUH as a LD shaft to try out). So, I likely won't ever have to look for a shaft again. People here in Shanghai are often so helpful and friendly.
Give me my one piece snooker cue anyway of the week... buying a snooker cue will be like buying glasses to me. Remember my prescription and ask for that... buying a pool cue is a whole other beast. Glad to have my forever cue done and dusted. Glad to have my Mezz as a backup.
Anyway, point is... Do the couple hours of research first people!
