425- 450 to spend on a cue. What would u get?

That's a lot of cue for under 500. Jim makes great cues and with top notch fit and finish. I was going to mention him but both those links do a great job showing off his work.

My opinion is just the opposite for obvious reasons.

Lot's of better options out there. Ryans cues are excellent, as are dozens of others.

Well as long as you pimp your guy at the expense of someone else.

Stay classy...

I don't have the time or energy to list the vast majority of cuemakers that would be a better buy than a Pierce. There, no pimping done. : )

The problem is your opinion is limited to the single bad incident you had. Nothing more. Sorry things went south for you on that deal.

However I've owned 3 Pierce cues and played with a half dozen others. In comparison to the hundreds of cues I've had experience with I think they're a good value.

You may not like Jim and rightfully so according to your side of the story but there's no shortage of cue makers who I don't like but who's cues I think are a good value.

Bottom line your issues are of a personal nature and have more to do with the cue maker than the value of the cues he makes.

I don't particularly care for Jim, that is certainly true. However, I base my comments on his ability as a cuemaker based on the work that he perfomed on a cue. If the original poster, or whomever, is interested in details, I am willing to provide further details, as well as put them in touch with the cuemaker that spent considerable time and expense to "try" and correct all the damage that Jim did to the cue in question.

All that said, I'm generally happy that your Jim Pierce cues worked out OK. But I would not take one as a gift.

To the original poster, my opologies for the divergent conversation. That said, If you would like to communicate via pm, I will suggest several cuemakers that provice an excellent product, as well as great service.

Thank you everyone for all the information. I think I am going to talk to one of the local cue makers David Rowell and if nothing can be worked out there I am leaning towards a RAT15.

David is a good guy & makes a nice cue as does Ryan,(Rat Cues). If neither works out for you let me know then we will meet at Bumpers & you can hit some balls if any of mine catch your fancy, good luck either way !!!

Salamander.... The original poster asked for positive recommendations. This didn't give you the right to take another potshot at Jim Pierce. You basically hijacked the thread. I have no idea what happened in your dealings with Jim Pierce, but its kind of strange that your the only guy I have heard that has issues with him.

What would I do?

Call David Schmelke and tell him I want another one of his cues.
For $425-450, I would tell him that I want a:
4 veneer ebony into birdseye maple full splice 60" cue
Juma joint collar with black phenolic rings.
3/8x10 G10 joint pin
Juma hoppe ring with black phenolic buttcap
Add a matching ebony smart pro extension
Two matching 30" maple shafts with 15" pro tapers

And I would still probably have some money left over.

This dude knows a good cue. Schmelke makes excellent cues to any specification up to 64 inches I think. I am seriously thinking about getting one from them because I am a gigantic human and need a longer cue tha tis still light. imagine a 64 inch cue that still weighs 19 ounces. Would be nice.

I've got loads at that price range. Jacoby, Woodworth, Bob Harris, McD, Meucci, and more. I'd be more than happy to walk you through them.

Text me.
