Think Cheng is playing the White Diamonds 9 Ball in Lafayette , Louisiana as well as Orcullo .

I thought it was weird that you listed Appleton has not playing since I remember he mentioned the event on Facebook as being a part of his schedule. I just checked again & see he wrote that he had to withdraw.

The list of who's not in maybe better than the list of who is in

1

Only 3-4 players of the who's not in list would have a realistic chance of winning it. Basically, the Ko bros and Dennis(?) and maybe Boyes. I know leaving Appleton outside must sound weird, but the way his form is the last couple of years, personally I wouldn't fancy his chances.

The only USAers in the brackets are Van Boening and Lombardo. I wonder if any other(s) will be playing in the qualifiers. Probably not.

And Lee Van who wins many events in Asia, and Albin who very recently won the China Open over in the same general area.

TBH I think your list of the people who "have a realistic chance of winning it" is more like the "list of people would be considered favorites in the event and have a very good chance of winning it".

There are a lot of people on the "not attending" list that have the potential to actually win the event, even if they are not obvious favorites like Big Ko or Dennis.

Sadly, the Japan Open this year is a surprisingly weak field overall. There are certainly some champs in it, but the field lacks a huge number of top end talent. The US Open from this year blows the Japan Open field out of the water, that has not happened very often in recent decades.

Yes, that I was trying to say, but apparently didn't express myself the right way. Thanks for the correction.

This event has been dominated by Tawanese and Filipinos for past few years and with very small Euro contingent this year, the trend is set to continue
A few dozen players can win whole thing but these few below have best chance of snapping it off. Euro who has best chance is Thorsten who has won this before.

Chang Yu Lung
Chang Jung Lin
Wu
Jeff Ignacio
Biado
Johann Chua
Thorsten

I would like Yang to win this as a sort of comeback but sadly he is past his prime and is a very long shot against these younger monsters

Day 1 Qualifiers

Day 1 Qualifiers is over
This year's Qualifiers field is and smaller and weak compared to past years which had killers like Chao, Jeff de Luna, Liu Haitao
This year had only about 80 players with few notable names like Ricky Yang, Medinilla, Anton Raga none of whom qualified on Day 1

Total 18 qualifier slots in main event of 128 players
10 players qualified in Day1 into main event. Only 3 were Filipinos (Dante Razalan, Romiel Morta, M A Mendoza) while rest were Japanese

Remaining 8 players qualified for main event 128 players which starts tomorrow (11 Nov)
Ricky Yang and a Korean qualified while other 6 are Japanese
I seems Oliver Medenilla and Anton Raga did not show up as all their scores showed 0
