Been surfing around the net including ebay , and see ALOT of cues right around the $350-$500 range. All look pretty nice but Im wondering which one plays the best if any feedback..Please excuse the DP issues, just worried about PLAYABILITY.

Here are the brands I see...

1. DP
2. Joss
3. Jarvis
4. Kuliat?
5. Pechauer

I've only hit with a few of these and looking for any feedback..thanks

Don't know about Jarvis or Kuliat.
My ratings:
1. DP
2. Joss
3. Pechauer
I like all 3 of them, actually.

Huebler

My first choice would be a huebler with points. It will have a true custom hit to it.
Then any cue with non-cnc points in it.

These days most cues have are CNC points, so the points are not that important.... they all will hit like a two piece cue (butt end – like a one piece of Birdseye maple).

IMO, get a good solid sneaky pete and you can't go wrong.

Bugs.

If playability is your main concern I would consider buying from an established
custom cuemaker. I just recieved a custom ordered Paul Dayton, listed on his website as #SP002. $475 You get to pick the weight , length, ferrulle material and diameter, balance point and maybe even wood. A great value
for a true playing cue. My Opinion. David

With $500 your options are pretty much endless. I just plopped down $440 for a new pete from Josey with a wrap and talisman pro tip. If I didn't like that idea and still had $500 to play with I might opt for a John Davis blank ($350) and then save up from there to have someone wrap it and match a shaft.

I'm personally on a mission to try as many petes as I can from as many different makers as I can, but at $125 a month the going is slow :P

hard to say

i've hit a ball with every cue someone would let me play with.still a lot left out there but what i do know is not all joss hit the same along with all other cues, pechauer, shcon .some are more consistent in the "hit" department but its hard to know.tip, ferrule, shaft, joint, weight, age of wood, all can have a vary on the hit, hell you never know.its hard to say what is the best cue.myself,i like big pin cues.after that just average specs with a harder tip.i can play with anything and get in stroke but those type cues play best to my style of stroke.nothing to heavy or to light.not a fat shaft, not skinny.if you want to put a comparison look at the "work" done in the cue, such as inlay, point consistency, wood quality, wrap.this is the difining diffrences in cues throughout the prices.most cuemaker's shaft wood is probally as similar as anything can be.but their work/craftsmanship is the major difference.

I have owned multiple DP and Joss cues. I would say that ranked 1-3 I would rank:

1 DP
2 Pechauer
3 Joss

I have never owned a Kuliat or Jarvis

My .02

I could put you into a very nice 07 Joss for $500. Even put on a Moori tip on it if you like. I am a Joss distributor so you get the guarantee also.

Cant really go wrong with any of 'em....since fancy isnt important to you then play with each of 'em. As much as some people might want you to think, none of these cues are "better" than the others. you need to find the "one" you like and get it....

At 500 bones you can get a sneaky from most cue makers....and a sneaky from x will/should play like a fancy from the same guy... in case you might want to step up your cue game at a later date.

That is the truth right there. I have played with JOSS that hits completely different from one another.

Honestly it may be because it's what I learned on back in the days but I am a fan of meucci. I learned on a 2 pointer that was green called the green monster then ended up with a freshman series and a gambler 2 and a powerpiston 4 and they are incredibly consistent for me. I know many people dislike meucci but I have always liked them.

Thanks for all the replies, I know there are alot of variables actually endless variables, but I do hit with everything I can just cause I'm curious. Cue Collecting can get addicting!

I am also a fan of Meucci, I learned the game WAY before all the super duper shaft techonology and on a Meucci Original cue that is probably as old as me. I still have it today with a 314 shaft that I can play with anytime and probably keep forever, but dont need another right now.

for me and i have played with them all, owned most on the list, and the Joss is the winner hands down!!! Its by farthe best value for the money there is, I have one I paid $275 for it and didnt get the best deal-the reason I bought it was the grain of the wood in the forearm is perfect straight grain, and the shaft is too, it was a deal considering the price, I have seen a few that were just ok, but if you look over them you can find a great one-you wont find a bad one. Joss is the best cue in that market.

Anyone on here familiar with a Roger Allen cue out of Texas? I got one from Cliff a couple of years ago. Looks nice and hits good, but I never heard of him before.
