7 or 9 footer?

I am a big fan of a good 9' table and the only 7' table I liked was a very nice Diamond. Now I realize not every one has access to a 9' table and many leagues and tournaments use 7' tables, so one plays on whats available.

If you could own a table or wave a magic wand what would your choice of table be.
Is it a 7 or 9 foot table?

Just ask yourself this:
Would it be easier to go from a 9 ft to a 7 ft, or from a 7ft. to a 9ft.

If I was in my area I would rather own a 7 footer because that's all we play on.

If I was in an area where 9 footers were more prevalent or didn't care about competing on the 7 footers I would take a 9 footer all day. Although I don't get to play on one nearly as much as I would like to, I love playing on a good 9 foot table. I don’t know why because I’m way more use to barboxes but the game just seems better played on a big table.

I agree with that but right now I shoot on a 9 foot Gabriel about 8 times a month and it's always by myself. When I'm done I'll normally shoot someone on a 7 foot Valley and there seems to be no long shots and the pockets seem huge but I have trouble adjusting my speed.

Please - 9 foot.
7 foot will make you aquire strange habits and there are no real "long shots"; also the dynamic involved (slow, medium, high speed) on a 7 is dramatically reduced so you'll rust also in stroke dynamics.

Going back from 9 to 7 is rather easy.

I play 7 ft far too frequently in league, and since my two closest rooms have closed. A third room is still in remodeling after changing location a couple of months back. I will say this, when I walk into a room as I did Sunday, with 9ft tables I just feel better...7ft has it's challenges, but 9ft is the right size.

9 footer for me too. There's a table at Shooters in Olathe KS--table #3, that's the one I want. Heck, without having played on one, if I had the space I'd get a 10 footer. Then even the 9's would seem puny.

This is a very specific and correct observation. I agree completely and it's also a reason why I shun 7 foot tables as both a player and a spectator.
I own a 9 foot, and it never once crossed my mind to get a 7.
The game is so beautiful on a 9 foot. A 10 foot is even better but those are hard to come by as is the space needed for it.

That being said, 7 footers are fun for kids. My 9 year old is always pumped up when we play a 7 footer, but that is coming from his point of view where all he knows is a 9 footer in the basement.

I would wave the magic wand and get an antique table worth $100,000.
Then i would sell the table and buy a 9 foot Diamond and a Jaguar.
You have to think outside the box if you have a magic wand.

9 footer, no doubt about it.

Having owned a GC II 9 footer, and playing in rooms with 9's, that's the gold standard for me. The only magic wand move would be to change my GC into a mint condition
9' Centennial... IMO the most beautiful table ever.

About 12 years ago I bought a 7 foot table and have played in tournaments and leagues on nothing but 7' tables. The place where I play most has some 9' tables and occasionally I'd play some on one; but not very often. Then early this year I played in a 9' table 8 ball league (that was an experiment) and I really liked it; wishing I had a 9' table at home.

Later they removed 3 of the 9' tables at the place I play and I bought one of them. It's not set up yet; I'm looking forward to it. I will have to rearrange things in the basement and even then it will be a tight fit. I think a 9' table will expose or amplify errors in your game - at least it did mine. Once you get used to the speed, a transition back to a 7' table isn't too bad.

9 footer. I started out life playing on bar boxes and thought I was pretty handy...then the first time I tried gambling on a 9 footer I realized I didn't really know as much as I thought. I'm awaiting delivery of a 9 foot Diamond ProAm with 4 3/8 inch pockets (any day now!), and have pretty much stuck with 9 footers for the past 15 years. Whenever I do shoot on a 7 footer, it only takes a couple of racks to get the speed/constrained space adjustments made. ;)
