7 Year Old Player

I could not get the trailer to come up on my laptop, but I think this is an episode featuring Landon Shuffet from KY. Landon has got game and he uses a McDaniel cue.........very wise beyond his years.

Yes, Landon is the boys name.

I thought the funny part was the guy who said, "I just got beat by a 7 year old".

I think the kid has an advantage, just think about it, he doesn't have to bend over, he's at eye level with the balls standing straight up and just imagine how big those pockets must seem to him. :D :D

I just noticed this clip was posted yesterday before I posted it here.

My apologies to the original poster, I didn't see it.

I couldn't open it, but if that's Landon Shuffett, he's eleven or twelve now years old now. And he's a great pool player. His dad, Stan, is his coach. Their website is www.justcueit.com.

He played the UPA event in Atlanta and was playing pretty well, phenomenally (sp?) for being so young. He is very polite and isn't prone to your usual 12 year old antics........well except for one vibrating pen and one Earl Strickland incident.

Tell us about the pen and Earl!!!

My daughter just turned 7 in July - her dad (my ex) is a pool player as well, and she picked up the cue for the first time last May. She's nowhere near the strength of Landon at 7 - but it's amazing to watch. Keith McCready showed her some stance and how to line up a shot, and she picked it up immediately. It's cool to see how quick they can get it! I'm thinking pro tour 2015 Watch Out!!

I will respond to the pen incident.

Throughout the day I noticed that Tony Robles had a pen and was getting autographs on a tournament flyer or at least that is what I thought. Tony continued his little routine.

In the meantime Landon was playing Jonathon Hennessee in what turned to out to be a very close match.

As Landon finished his match Tony quickly escorted Landon outside of Murphy's where a group of players were talking and carrying on........The stage was set as Landon asked Earl for his autograph. Earl was very accommodating until he pressed the button to write and was jolted with a fairly good shock from the pen. The little group laughed and laughed. Earl got pretty hot and verbally let Landon have it. I did not witness the ordeal but I was told that Landon held his own.

Scott Smith said it best as Landon walked by a bit later, "Landon, you played a good match and you penned Earl!"

Hope Keith didn't teach her that side-saddle stroke, Nineballcc, LOL. Just kidding. Keith has been my bar table hero for a long time. Even watched him beat Sigel on the big table.

Best of luck to your daughter. Sounds like she is off to a good start.

I am guessing he will be at least 13 before he could consider consistenly winning in our 9 ball practice matches. The more cerebral games, longer. When it happens I think he will just blow by.

I've said it before and will iterate again. You raised a world class kid as well as pool player, Stan. My hat is off to you sir.

tap, tap, tap, Stan! You KNOW how I feel about Landon...a class act. We all look forward to his future appearances on the world pool stage! He is a credit to our sport, and I am proud to have had a small hand (among others) in his development as a player! In case you missed it, Landon was one of the six junior players (and the youngest competing internationally) to represent our country in the 2005 World Youth Championships in Austria.

Quote from Inside Pool: "Landon Shuffet was also recognized for his manners and professionalism. Tournament Director Torben Blomdahl, who is also President of the World Confederation of Billiard Sports (WCBS), awarded Shuffet the Fair Play Trophy, for his professionalism, manners, ability, and common respect for the sport of billiards."

That pretty much says it all...congratulations Landon!

I have seen this air along time ago, there was also a dog or something like that, that can make balls. Crazy Stuff. Cole.

Ummm  ...that would be Wonder Dog, who, unlike his owner, actually CAN run 'three friggen balls'! LOL You're certainly right about the 'crazy stuff'! LMAO :D

Stan, my 8 year old son is excelling in baseball(striking out 12 yr olds) and I want to nurture his talent. Any advice on pushing your son to practice and study a subject that is not connected with his school studies? I see how a young boy reacts to becoming a student of the game when he can perform one part of it with ease.I also worry about trying to teach a young boy too much too early. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. STB

Stan and Landon- Keep up the good work, stay positive and focused! I'm looking forward to the day we get to meet face to face.

Thanks and good luck,
Zim

the younger the better!

My uncle startedme on the basics and drills at 9, and the lessons still are remembered 48 years later!

It's cool to read about kids playing pool. I have a five year old step-son thats right at 4 foot tall already. He is almost the biggest little kid on the block. He has shown some interest in pool, watching it with me some on TV and he will play with me on occasion on the table. I have him a shorter cuetec cue, as well as a full sized cuetec for his sister that he borrows on occasion as well. I am amazed at how he is learning the numbers of the balls and he makes a ball or two on occasion. He has been playing since 4. We take it slow and approach the game whenever he feels like it and at whatever pace he wants to play it. I am just hopeing he enjoys the game and has fun with it. It is a good low impact sport for him and he could make a spare dollar or two on occasion for college later on which would be good. I am not looking for him to become a champion, just someone that can appreciate and enjoy the sport as a hobby that can be taken more serious if he wants.
