$740,000 First Prize for World Heyball Championship in China, March 25, 2023

Not fair on a match by match basis but this way, they have a shot at some deeper cash or even cash at all.

there's nothing in pool that's inherently harder because of gender. there's a difference in breaking speed, but the magic rack levels that, especially under these conditions.

Yeah but more often than not the chick's number is some dumb chick thing. Me not one of them male chauvinists but pool is definitely crammed with machismo.

Anyone have a list of women who have won major open titles?

of course it's zero, but that's also because of how few they are compared to the men. maybe less than 1% of pool players worldwide? no african, indian or pakistani player have won a major either..

I haven’t been following this much…

The game is just like American 8 ball, only played on a snooker style table, correct?

Is the handicap that the player needs to pocket 6 balls, instead of 7, before shooting the 8? If so, I’ve won a ton of money giving that “spot” to other players that didn’t know any better. I’m sure we all have. What am I missing, that’s no spot?

It came on my FB feed a few hrs ago and I watched a few min. I think it might have been the quarter or semi finals, but unsure. The audience was packed, but they all looked bored as hell. Even when the camera panner on the audience (and they knew), most had a bored look on their face. Also during match the audience was silent. It might as well have been the Qatar world championships for 10 years. Idk if it’s a Chinese cultural thing, or the tournament directors instructed the audience to be silent. It was so bad about all I could hear was someone clearing their throat every minute.

Next, I was very surprised this was on my FB. It did look like an official live feed to me, not a bootleg. There were only about 500 viewers. The surprising part is FB has been banned in China since it came out. So how/why are they broadcasting to FB?

the handicap is that the last ball of the suite is removed before the player shoots the 8-ball. in practice this means that the player leaves the most clustered ball and doesn't have to break up balls or play tight position. it's a huge handicap.

i believe this is broadcasted on chinese tv

The Chinese upper level is predominantly male, but Tang has won this title before.

From what I can tell, Heyball / Joy has a marketing team that posts this content to Facebook. People in China watch on another source.

So far is very tigth!

her performance throughout has been amazing
most male pros in pool would give up this spot to the top ladies all day and win all night, she would be bucking that trend and robbing them
and now she can claim one of the biggest prizes in history
well done

this tourney was paying four figures 16 places deep, still surprising that a few more pool guys didn't get in on this via qualifiers, especially since the promoter assists with expenses

maybe because they don't want anything to do with mainland china?

Well, snooker players are either getting prepared to the WC or trying to qualify there at the moment, hence their absence.
But I'm very surprised to see top Chinese female players were missing. Han Yu, Liu Shasha and Chen Siming have great background at Chinese 8-Ball, all having played in the finals of the World championship. Chen Siming is actually two-time champion. Weird she did not compete here.

Those ladys did not get the qualification... Chinese players have a rank, only top 64 made the finals and only 32 of them got to the final stage, girls included.

Young Yubu full on power break!
He mastered 8 ball game on every aspects. Would be nice if matchroom try to bring him in to the next world 8 ball championship? Would be awesome to see him play on the "regular" 9ft tables.
