In a strange battle situation where both players needed enough balls to qualify, Stalev edged out former World 14.1 winner Schmidt 100-90. They both qualify to the next stage but Stalev will likely receive the higher seed now.

Jeanette Lee "The Black Widow" is OUT! In a stunning upset , amateur league qualifier Eddie Kwok defeated Lee in the do or die match where the winner would advance to the next stage final 24 players races to 100. By far, this must be the biggest accomplishment of his pool history!

Count me in on the "too many threads" team. Really appreciate all the updates, though, and have been watching all week,

A little confused on the format, and can't find where it was (here or Facebook) that the format was laid out.

How many advance from each group after Wednesday?
What is the format for Thursday? Still round robin, or do the elimination brackets begin?

Half of each group (3 of 6) advance from the round-robin stage to form a group of 24 that play in a double-elimination format Thursday (games to 150 points). 8 of the 24 (top seeds from each of the 8 groups) have byes in the first round Thursday. 8 of the 24 players will be knocked out Thursday.

The surviving 16 players will play single-elimination matches (games to 200 points) on Friday and Saturday.

Thanks for the great updates on Facebook, to include those cool pool photos. I came to this forum in hopes to read more about what's happening, but it appears that Facebook is the way to go these days for the most recent pool updates.

Good to see Evgeny "The Russian" Stalev in the States competing. He is still a force to be reckoned with. I am tempted to drive up there tomorrow if he's still in the event.
