74th WORLD 14.1 Latest News Thread

classy move by john schmidt to step in and make sure the tournament officials let evgeny continue that run. he clearly wanted to, but it seemed the officials were going to step in and usher them off the table so john could start to practice. he wasn't having any of it and went to racking balls for him. pure class.

John Schmidt does seem like a good guy. He is pretty funny too. The only negative thing I remember about him was his attitude in his match with Deuel a few years ago on TAR. Everybody goes through moods while playing though so you can't really hold it against him. Seemed out of character for him

You're right...

The results are usually updated at the end of the day, instead of as they happen, unfortunately.

That's soooo disappointing!!
Can't watch - and all I want are final results. :sorry:

Instead of posting the link to empty brackets every time, could SOMEONE be soooo kind and post all results of the final 16?
Pleeeeaaaaaase... :o

Why Philippine & Chinese players are not competing in 14.1 tourney, just curious. Thanks.

Why Philippine & Chinese players are not competing in 14.1 tourney, just curious. Thanks.

Why?
Because of the cost of flying into the US, staying for at least a week in a hotel in the NYC Metro area, eating decent food, shuttling back and forth between the hotel and Steinway, etc. Also, mainland Chinese players need permission and backing from their government's official sports organization in order for them to compete outside of China.

That's why this is not a REAL WORLD'S Straight Pool tournament.
It's not officially recognized by the BCA.
But, it's the best straight pool tournament that we've got here in the USA.

Not my favorite player but i'll admit he showed something there w Stalev.

Robles wins over Fulcher goes to the quarter finals and playing Stalev now! www.worldstraightpool.com
Dechaine wins over Kiamco 200-147
Mika defeats Earl nailbiter 200-190 !

Stalev over Robles. Damn it. Tony wasn't the same after he (Tony) made the mistake of [wrongfully] picking the cue ball out of the rack area (strategically placed, for BIH in the kitchen) before Evgeny had a chance to inspect it. Evgeny [rightfully] balked that Tony picked the cue ball up, arguing whether it was really in the rack area or not (I think it was, but that's not the point -- it's not Tony's responsibility to just grab the cue ball before the opponent -- the racker -- has a chance to inspect). After the hubaloo with getting the ref and tournament director involved, Tony subsequently misses the break shot, slaps his cue on the table, and never recovered.

Sometimes 14.1 league "habits" are hard to break.

&^%$#!!

Mika vs. Earl today

What a match.
Controversy from the jump. Mika wanted
A different set of balls Earl was ok.
Nip and tuck back and forth Earl opens a early
Mika storms back 69-68. now it starts to get
bit chippy as Mika is about to shoot and
I mean the cue is in motion Earl asks
What ball? Mika stands up and says
Something to the effect don't talk to me and
Stop trying to Shark me.
They go back and forth a bit and play continues
Mika now picks up his game and is in good
Stroke and starts to open up a lead but Earl
Hangs with him. But the tension is palpable.
We are now 188-125 Mika -- soon to become
193-134 Mika he needs 7 but misses a pretty
Tough cut into the corner.
Earl needs 66 and out he steps up and puts
on a beautiful display of 14.1 I think maybe
2/3 balls pocketed up table and the room
grows quiet as he closing in fir the kill.
We are at 193-190 and it's not looking good
for Mika -- the table looks pretty good
Earl steps up fairly tough shot considering
The circumstances but Earl is in stroke
A 3/4 table length shot rattles in the corner
pocket and does not drop. Mika 7 and
Out and a win.
It was great theater and it's leading man
was Earl

Well at 11:47 pm my stream froze with the match still in progress. I closed my window to reload the stream, but when I signed in to access the content I already purchased and paid good money for it was no longer available. Now I don't even get to see if Shane holds off Mika and I doubt I'll be buying tomorrow's matches.

Yep, same here. This sucks.

Probably should as Dragon Promotions directly.you'd likely get an official answer faster. BTW, Kiamco is playing, and is from the phillipines.

Actually, it would be the WPA, not the BCA, to sanction this as a true world championship. They have sanctioned this event in the past, four times in fact. IIRC, the reason the WPA doesn't anymore has something to do with the amount of prize money. Doesn6't stop many of the world's best from three different continents from participating, some even going through qualifiers.

Upstate Al said to wait about 5 minutes before signing in again.
