You have to play position on every shot. Even the money ball.
There are pockets, 6 holes on the table. A pocket scratch is a great deflater on the money ball.
Especially when beginning to learn to play we put more pressure on the money ball, probably not your problem! Playing shape is excellent advice, that took care of issues I was having with all money balls.
The other thing, the eight ball is usually the hardest ball on the table to see precisely and see precise points on the eight ball. It is quite simply usually the hardest ball to aim at even in good lighting. As already noted, a bigger problem in poor light.
The real key is shooting the eight like every other ball. Odds are that you aren't for some reason even if just the slightly raised anxiety from missing it more than you should. If not playing on a coin op shoot just the eight ball, or a couple balls leading to it and the eight over and over and over again. I have pounded it into submission in the past just by hitting it for thirty minutes every day. Shoot straight in at it, shoot banks using only the eight. Shoot combos to force focus to be sharper.
Play something other than eight ball to be sure it is eight ball related and not a genuine eye problem creeping in. Also, try to relax. Are you shooting other shots without thought then getting to the eight and thinking "I have been missing this sucker?"

The last couple of weeks, I seem to have fallen into a pattern. Putting together decent patterns, and then going "mind-blind" on the 8 ball. I don't feel like I'm doing anything different on the 8, than I am on any other shot during the rack. Pre-shot routine seems fine, I don't feel like I'm rushing, breathing feels the same, etc...I'm just missing. Do any of you Mosconis out there go through this? What do you do to "flip the switch?" At this point, I'm considering witchcraft!

Just a bit more seriously, try this: the next time you're running down to the 8ball and get to it, look at the shot, decide how you want to hit it... and then take a walk.
Not a long walk, just maybe take a stroll down one side of the table or the other and then walk back to the 8ball and shoot.

Missing the 8-ball is even worse in 9-ball.
You mean like "I hope nobody is watching in case I miss" or "all I have to do is sink this 8 and my team wins the tournament" or "if I make the 8 here I'm on the hill". Yes, all of that crap has gone thru my head while on the money ball.

Anyone can configure an attack to take out a target. Longer money usually works. These discussions are of basic principles no less. Would you make Gorst and his PSR the same offer?
