You really think about things like that when you're down on the money ball?
On every shot. The PSR is a process.
Visualization is part of the process.
The process is consistency.
JMHO.

So for me even on a case ball the last thought is where the cue ball is going. I even play position on the 8 or 9 ball. I’ve found if my only thought is making the ball I try to guide it in the hole rather then just stroke it
The last couple of weeks, I seem to have fallen into a pattern. Putting together decent patterns, and then going "mind-blind" on the 8 ball. I don't feel like I'm doing anything different on the 8, than I am on any other shot during the rack. Pre-shot routine seems fine, I don't feel like I'm rushing, breathing feels the same, etc...I'm just missing. Do any of you Mosconis out there go through this? What do you do to "flip the switch?" At this point, I'm considering witchcraft!

Maybe try and play shape?
Sounds like that might be the only thing that is not like the previous shots.
Pick an easy spot to get to after potting the eight and shoot with that spot in mind for the cue ball.
Missing the 8-ball is even worse in 9-ball.Montana things, too. Learned that 30 years ago.
Also:
Don't name that dog.
Smile before you get down on the shot.
Don't play eight ball.
You mean like "I hope nobody is watching in case I miss" or "all I have to do is sink this 8 and my team wins the tournament" or "if I make the 8 here I'm on the hill". Yes, all of that crap has gone thru my head while on the money ball. You really think about things like that when you're down on the money ball?

Anyone can configure an attack to take out a target. Longer money usually works. These discussions are of basic principles no less. Would you make Gorst and his PSR the same offer? You got action
I had that problem at a tournament recently. Luckily I was able to squeak by a couple of matches like that and then something clicked and I didn't have a problem with the 8 anymore. I like the idea of playing shape though! The last couple of weeks, I seem to have fallen into a pattern. Putting together decent patterns, and then going "mind-blind" on the 8 ball. I know it's a dozen more posts not to mistrust but it's in there. By the time I'm down and stroking a shot - and I quote Little Al Romero here, "The ball is made".I don't play league so I don't have those problems.
But even in tournaments and gambling, I try to not let negative thoughts enter my head, I just say "I'm going to make this ball" or "I'm going to win"
Manifestation or positive words of affirmation works.
However, I was replying asking straightline if he actually things about CBL or whatever he was talking about geometry while down on the shot. For me, that's a recipe for losing. All the aiming and thoughts about angle/geometry should be while I'm standing and studying the table, not while I'm down on the shot. When I'm down, it's time for execution alone.
