Call pocket.

I like playing as Linda described. It's rather hard to argue wether or not that ball went into the side pocket. I don't care how many balls or rails it goes off, just tell which pocket it's going in. Case closed.:D

Once again Call pocket and Slop are not the same thing. Call pocket you need to call the ball and the pocket. Slop is the APA rules all you have to do is hit one of your balls first and if any one of your balls go in any pocket you continue your turn. That is Slop.:( The 8 is the only time you need to call and mark a pocket, but it can still get to that pocket any which way.
My league plays Ball and pocket. However instead of Ball in hand on bad hits we use the 3 option rule. Ball in kitchen, Play it from were it lies, or make the other guy shoot again. If your only legal ball to hit is also in the Kitchen you can reguest the closest ball to the bulk line to be spoted.

I stand corrected... The APA rules are quite vague on the pocketing of balls, so I must agree that slop is allowed. They actually make no mention of calling a pocket, but you have to mark the 8-ball pocket. They also do not allow the table to be "open" after the break regardless of what you pocket. If you make one ball, you have to continue to shoot that suit.

They also award a win for making the 8 on the snap. They also do not allow any safe or soft breaking.

IMHO these are bullshiztzky rules and this league should be avoided. Try BCA or VNEA for real rules.

My APA card is lying shredded at the bottom of the wastebasket.

One notch above bar rules is all they could come up with??

Call 8 ball or slop?

IMO, 8 ball played at an amatuer level should be slop. This is supposed to be a social game for the masses.

It just tears me up when I see the TAP player stand up and say, while beating on his chest, that he plays in a league with no slop. This is the man's way etc. 9 times out of 10 this person can't play worth a damn anyway. Nor do they want to loose any of their money LOL.

These are the same people who ***** about table rolls and everything else. Yeah, like they are Willie Mosconi!! They want to get the luck factor out of the game so that their real skills can shine.:p I just want to throw up every time I hear one of these idiots spouting.

I tell them to go shoot straight pool if they want to be a real man, and they just ask me what is straight pool?

Anyway, maybe the pros or very good players wanting to call shots is okay, but still not for me. Calling shots is BORING! TEDIOUS! and in most cases A WAIST OF TIME. Think of all the thousands of times you have to call the shot, on obvious shots even, just to prevent that one luck shot from happening. To me, it is not worth it.

And I can't stand the wimps in league play who let you not call obvious shots (yes, I played in TAP) all night, and then suddenly stand up and say that you didn't call the shot. RINKY DINK IS WHAT I THINK OF CALLING YOUR SHOTS IN 8 BALL. RINKY DINK!
