We started this tournament in 2006 at Hard Times Billiards in Sacramento and have had a steady player turnouts of 24+ for the last 2 years.

Well, in the last 6 weeks there has been turnouts of 38, 36, 39, 41, 42 and last night we had a record 49 players.

It is a LINE tournament that just lasts 2.5 hours from start to finish.
We at Hard Times Billiards welcome the Bar League players to our 33 table pool hall to play 8 ball under the World Standard Rules and enjoy playing on 9 foot GC3s.

As many already know Bar league playes usually have a few brews while they compete. Well with the majority of these players that show up on our TUESDAY night.... the Beer and food is flowing GREAT.

Everyone seems to be having a great time.

Back East where I was introduced to this LINE tournament, there was never more than 20 or 24 players so this 49 player event is a HUGE event for us.

If any one is interested in this format refer to this post I made here a few years ago

I have score and table assignment sheets made up for up to 40 players... had to use two sheets last night :D

BTW with the $10 entry fee and $40 added the pot for last night's tournament was $530.

This sounds like fun, wish I lived closer.

This format works well in a place with a lot of tables.

How many tables did you use with 40 players?

40 players, 2 per table... 20 tables.

We have 31 tables available.

In a small pool hall with, say, only 10 tables...you'd have to limit the number of players to 20, in the tournament.

That sounds pretty damn cool, the novelty of moving tables like that makes it really interesting. Watching to see who moves where after each game especially if you have friends in the tournament at different ends of the brackets.

I can attest that this is a really fun format! I played down there in it and Austin Murphy knocked me out of bigger money, but I did get in last place money with a split of about 8 shares. :p

The next night I played in their 10-ball tournament and was 1 out of the money (single elimination?), altho I did make 2 10's on the break! Again put out by that little (?!*) Austin Murphy. I am going to have to bite his ankle or something next time!
