8 ball Question - Help!!!!!!

OK I was playing 8 ball last night in my basement with my banger friends. (very badly I might add) So were playing partners and here is the situation. My team(me and my girlfriend) our on the 8 ball which is hanging in the pocket, and the other team has the 14 ball left.(14 ball is close to the 8 ball, almost on the rail.) Here is my question.......

Can you call the 14 off the 8 and continue to shoot?(playing ball in hand)

Then he hit the 14, and the 8 and 14 get jawed in the pocket. I read the rule but did not really understand it(no ref present).

As long as you call ball and pocket and you hit your ball first, then its good.

Unless you are playing call all shots and pockets you wouldn't have to call the 14 off of the 8.

You can always carom off of another ball, even the 8, as long as you contact your group of balls first.

Playing with bangers it is best to just play call the pocket no matter how it gets there. This avoids a lot of arguments. I have seen players argue about the ball hitting the facing, the lead in rail, going in clean and etc when playing called shot. Surprisingly most of this happens on the money ball. :help: Even seen players get into a argument that the player didn't call the cue ball hitting the rail after making the 8 ball???? :shrug:

Then you should find a copy of the rules and post them on your wall.

Then when people come over to your house you can say "you can play by any rules you want as long as you find them on this wall"

after all the fights that have gone on, I did print the rules and put them on the wall.

the other day I was playing a friend. I ran six balls, missed, he shot then got my last solid then scrached on the 8. He went to grab the balls off the table as if I lost. had to break out the rules for him LOL
