Ok with the league season having just got over for the year, a few of us have decided to run an in house league ourselves for the summer. We want it to be handicapped to give a few of the less experienced players a chance, so I am wondering if anyone knows of a simple 8 ball rating system to use to make it "fair". As for me I wouldnt care for it to be handicapped, I'd just as soon play the better players heads up but I know there are a few guys who just wont play if they dont feel that they have a chance to win. So does anyone have a really simple 8 ball rating system to use? I will probably be doing the work on my computer and I am ok with numbers but hopefully nothing too complicated. Any help would be great.

I'm in a in house league that uses teams of two players per team. The teams consist of one "A" player and one "B" player. Works pretty well if you don't mind teams.

It's going to be a singles league, so that one wont work. Thanks for the reply though.

I did see that and while I am fairly good with numbers that formula has me completely lost, lol too many letters in it i guess. I'll have to go back and figure look at it again to see if i can get it. It does look like a great system.

contact Mike and he may have a spreadsheet or something with the formulas in it already.

How about?

Rank players from 4 - 10, due to their skill level. Unknown players start as 6's.

If you win you raise your level by one, if you lose - you drop by one level.
Players race to their handicap against their opponents.

Easy to keep track, and easy to handicap.

Since our league has just ended, you could take the total games played and divide that into total games won, which will give you a percentge to go with. We always limit to a minimum of 8 weeks played

Hope this helps

I like the sound of Tulane's system. Real simple and reasonably fair.

Our VNEA league ranks you based on balls made or something. Each ball is worth a point, 8 is worth 3, so a win is worth 10 always. Average all the games together to get the player's rating on a scale of 0-10. That way a loss with 7 balls run can still affect the handicap.

Yeah the league I play in is vnea. I guess were looking to go a lil different route with it though, as we will have some real beginners here, so were looking at something like the M8 system if any of you know that one. I havent played that one but its a race to a certain number of balls and that varies on your handicap, so I might be going to 45 and my opponent 60. Where each ball is 1pt and the 8 is worth 7, but you only get points for balls down, so if Id run all 7, then make the 8 and scratch with all 7 of his on the table the score would be 7 to 7. I think Ill contact Mike though and see if he can walk me through his.

We will have a few experienced shooters and a few beginners, we're kind of just wanting to pass the passion for the game on to the next ones. At this point these guys don't feel that they can compete and don't realize the only way to get better is to shoot against, and watch, better players.

Thanks for all of your input, its much appreciated.
