8 Men still in Buffalo's 1 Pocket 2026

gorst/Bustamante
was one of the best onepocket matches i have seen
they played 9 games
so under an hour each game
the games went long because of excellent play
NOT BECAUSE IT TOOK FOREVER TO SHOOT
big difference
They did have difficulties to run out. Tough table and tough rolls. Bustamante played some crazy combination or thin cut a few times to move ton of balls to his pocket and ended without a shot multiple times.

And then the balls went up table for some high quality One Ball One Pocket.

But they did play fast. There was no agonizing for minutes over simple shots.

one pocket isn't really meant to be played in a tournament setting for this reason in my opinion- it is really intended for gambling matches. 7 hours is way too long for a tournament match

Many years ago, I think in the '80s, subject to check, ESPN came to a one-pocket tournament in Maryland. A well-known Hall of Famer, whose specialty was/is one-pocket, was on the TV table. I don’t remember who his opponent was. About two hours into the match, ESPN packed up their gear and left, saying the match was too long and wasn’t going to air due to its length and lack of excitement, or words to that effect.

Of course, as one-pocket fans know, that’s the nature of the game sometimes. Some of those matches were so quiet you could hear a pin drop, the complete opposite of the electric atmosphere at events like Buffalo’s tournaments or the Mosconi Cup.

One-pocket is a beautiful chess match for those who understand it, but it doesn’t always translate to television. But me? I could sweat a one-pocket match on the rail, in person, but on TV or a live stream, not so much. And I like one-pocket.

What's the point in all the strategy that only delays losing. It's pool not chess. It's not even close to chess. The only strategic game more inane is 9 ball banks.

Nothing personal Jam.
Sooooo….. you don’t like, or seem to get either 1 pocket or banks. To many, playing ALL games, the different disciplines, is what makes a well rounded player.

For those like myself and others here who spent years on the road. It was necessary to play all disciplines, as to take advantage of opportunities that presented themselves along the way.

One hole I like. I'll do the safety thing but I prefer getting out. I won't waste time with a rock by any means.
Couple ifonlees: 1) a decent room 2) somebody interested enough to learn some different rules.

Banks OTOH is just a waste of time. NOw if they removed the restrictions, that could be different.
