9-Ball books intermediate to advanced?

I did a few different searchs here and I know instructional books have been discussed to death but the searchs are coming up to broad for me to zero in on what are the good 9-ball books.

I don't get your guys A,B,C ranking system but my skill level when it comes to 8-Ball is that you might get one, possible two, chances at the table if you play strong safeties. I'll break and run out 1 out of every 4 or 5 racks.

I'd like to get my 9-ball game up to that point or past it, I seem to struggle a bit with this game. Any suggestions on what books might help me out here? Thanks.
 
i have that play your best 9 ball and it did a lot for my game. i started running out more and playing much stronger safties. it's a great book
 
Thanks guys, Phil's books came to mind but I read in more than a few places he was somewhat difficult to follow and he contradicts himself alot. I'll check them out anyhow.

Anyone else?
 
you could try the pro book i think bob henning wrote it. i liked it and it's full of good advice and drills

After all these years, and all the crap I've spent money on, I don't have a single thing from Capelle. Probably never will.

I don't know. I've thumbed through the first book, but nothing jumped out as new material to me.

I have a book "Lessons in 9 Ball"... Get with me privately if you want a copy, or wait a few weeks and you can download it off my website.

Bob Henning's book is excellent, so is Phil Capelle's.

Well yeah, but then again you're pretty sophisticated as players go.

I think he write clearly and his stuff is good.

Bob J. thinks he's wordy as I recall, but Bob's a tough critic in this regard, imo.

Stop buying books and start playing pool. The game of 9-ball, straightpool, one pocket and 8-ball are all the same. The stratigies on how each game is played is just different. Pocketing a ball in each game is the same. cutting a ball is the same, banking a ball is the same, jump shots are the same, kicking is the same.

Its like music, Musical notes for heavy metal and Motzart is the same. Just played differently. Same for pool. So learn to play pool and learn all of the above elements plus a few more. The more you play the more your mind will think pool on a second nature level. Paralysis by analysis. If your going to read a book, read it for the stratigies...

That's not as funny as it sounds. The only Capelle book I have is his book on 14.1 and I won it as a door prize.

No Byrne books either.

I've seen these books (while working in a pool hall's pro shop) went thru them and didn't see anything I thought would help my game.

You could spend your time better by practicing your problem shots. You already know what they are, just do it.
 
I play about 25 hours a week with a good 6 to 8 additional hours strictly devoted to practice and drills, extra table time probably isn't going to happen. I wasn't looking for a cure for a problem but more or less some extra insight. Since there isn't a single BCA instructor in my area within 150 miles I figured a book surely couldn't hurt improve my game. Thanks for the tips guys.

Which book was the first one. i really liked play your best 9 ball he covered the fundamentals a little too much i guess but as you get further into it he talkes more about strategy and different ways to play shots. i read another comment on here about stop reading and play more. i can't always afford to play and don't win enough gambling to cover my table time so i just try to imporve my game as however i can. i'd play more if i could
