9-ball Gurus, Please Analyze this Position

Hi sjm,

I'm certainly no guru but I love these so I'll throw my hat in the ring.
I think I would try to make the 9 off the 8 and send the 2 ball to the side rail. It's a risky shot but what the heck. Curious to hear what others would do.

My exact thought after looking at it for a minute here. Not sure if I could make the same decision during the match though. I dont usually see the table from this angle.

Didn't read the rest of the thread so we may be in the minority here but that's where my mind went instantly. With the 9 hanging like it is in the picture, it'd be easy to drop. And if you hit the 8 at the right speed, the two should come to rest on the rail.

I loved this thread. What an interesting scenario and though in the SJM's previous thread I instantly saw caroming the 9-ball in for the win, in this one, it never occurred to me to carom the 9 in and move the 2 ball! Nice little "mind-opening" lesson! Thanks guys!
