9ball World Championship, Doha, Qatar 2012

Maybe you don't know how expensive it could get really quick from several of those countries who have big followings to rack up a large bandwidth bill, or kill the feed all together.

If this is something we want, we all need to let the people that make these decisions know that it is important to us.

Personally, I don't believe most of the world, understands how easy it is to obtain people who are throughly familiar with putting a livestream system together, how relatively inexpensive it is to put a livestream on, and how live-streaming can positively impact their events.

In fact, I still find people who play pool regularly who don't understand just how much pool live-streaming is already going on.

If I were the people in Qatar, I would hire someone to put together a complete program and then hire my own people to maintain and stream their events.

Maybe you don't know how expensive it could get really quick from several of those countries who have big followings to rack up a large bandwidth bill, or kill the feed all together.

As long as you can get the feed to a free provider like ustream or justintv there is no bandwidth bill. If you do a ppv you only pay for the bandwidth you use meaning you build that cost into the price. Actually with our PPV bandwidth provider the more you use the cheaper it gets per MB.

The only sticking point I am not sure about is how hard it would be to get that upload to a ustream server from Doha. I have never streamed outside the US so it may be easy or it could be next to impossible. It would take about five minutes and a laptop in Doha to find out though.

An upset in the making. Yang Ching Shun is trailing Karl Boyes, 6 games to 1. Earlier, Daryl Peach was trailing Bozo Primic, 5 games to zip, I guess Daryl settled down and it's now a respectable 5 games to 4...

I think it would great for our sport if Bader Alawadhi or other players of Kuwait, did really well. Kuwait has at least four players in this event and since the World 9 Ball Championship and other top events are being played in this part of the world these days, it could be good for the sport that some of the Middle Eastern players do well. It might even be good for world peace. If only we could have similar relations (like we have with Kuwait) with all of the countries of the Middle East. Regardless, any wins will have to be earned as each country is represented by some of their own best players.

I don't know how most of you feel but I would like to know more about these international players whom I haven't been exposed to previously.

Of course, I'm pulling hard for America's Hunter Lombardo and Shane Van Boening. I don't know much about the formats and will have to get up to speed. I know Shane has lost one match already and don't know if he is still in or not. They have some brackets and some live scoring links that Gopi-1 put up and I will have to look through that.

Just as I wrote this I checked the scoring and see that Badr ran into some guy named Efren Reyes and lost 2-9. Aieeeeeh.

You're rooting for the wrong guy or guys Joey. You should be rooting for Mohammad Saeed (who just lost to Roberto Gomez 1-9 :p ), Bashar Hussain and Ali Obaidly. They are the ones who's hosting this event!

Regarding Shane, he will play Jundel Mazon tomorrow, sudden death, winner advances to the round of 64 and the loser goes home crying!

Hey Joey I worked in Kuwait for 8 years and have seen all the top players on the Kuwait Billiards team. Let me tell you that they can hold there own. The only problem is the only competition they have is each other. If they had the chance to play a much larger pool of good players then they would be much better off. Several players of the Kuwait Team have played in the US Open several times. Omar Al Shaheen is only about 18 now and has the potential to be very strong. But like I said, a lack of quality players I feel hurts them when they play international competition due to lack of experience. Overall they are very good people and I feel privileged to have met and played with some of them. Hope this helps.

I think Daryl won and Karl is on the hill. But, remember, the loser isn't out yet. He just has to win the next match to move to the following stage.

No, I know who I was rooting for. :D I was just rooting for one of my friend's friends who doesn't post here that often.

Thanks for confirming what I think about the Kuwaiti people and their pool players. My wife was a volunteer for the Red Cross and she made sure that I knew about the generosity of the Kuwaiti people who donated at least a couple of the Red Cross's emergency response vehicles which must have cost well over a hundred thousand dollars each. Red Cross affiliated entities in Kuwait have donated additional money to help out Louisiana and other states, especially during the Hurricane Katrina disaster. The Kuwaiti people will always have a special spot in my heart.
