I live in Texas so not lucky enough to have a bsmt. Is there any issue putting a 9 footer on the 2nd story? Weight wise, not concerning stairs turning sharp angles.

Thinking a perfect solution is a 1.5 story with big gameroom upstairs. Loud breaks won't disturb family and good privacy too.

I think some states have laws against pool tables on second floors for fireman safety.
If the floor joists are exposed you could always put in bracing

I'd have a contractor come in and add 5-6 new 2x10 floor joists. That's what I did on my upstairs apartment when I put a 9-footer up in it.

a 9' GC doesn't weigh any more than a waterbed, and those are well within the lb/sqft requirements of all building codes in the US.

A Gold Crown weighs about 1,000lbs or so...
No different than having 5 guys standing up there. You shouldn't have a problem as far as weight goes.
Just be sure there are no sharp angles to get up, such as stairwells.
Sounds like it will be a great game room.

If you take the average weight of a 9ft, about 1,200lbs, that puts the weight at about 300lbs per foot, leg leveler, 4 point contact on the floor. The weight is spread out over the 4 contact points, that's nothing compared to what the floor joists are rated to support by weight rating. Hell, i use to walk around at 300lbs, i don't ever recall falling through any upstairs floors...LMAO

I would think placing a 6" x 6" piece of plywood underneath each foot of the table would help evenly displace the weight even more. 300 pounds divided by 36 square inches of floor is less than ten pounds per square inch. Seems good enough to me.

Then again, I can't spell math so buyer beware.

Plywood is no where near strong enough to change the weight rating per leg leveler, it's to flexible.

You'll be fine, even if your man cave has a gun safe, fridge and stripper pole/dance floor and you're a chubby.chaser.

Thanks for the responses. Just something I always worried about because I havent seen it much. It's a five year dream 😁
