A Bar Table Confession

Ok I don't actually play in the APA but I have a lot of friends that do, and most of them are 7s and I beat them pretty regularly if we play a race to such and such. But in a race to 5 they maybe get 2 or 3 games, I usually win because of knowledge, because we can all (on a bar table) make runs. And ive played people who are 4's and they cant beat me period, maybe 1 out of 10 or something like that. So thats how im judging it. But I like to play at bars just to keep me sharp mentally against people I should beat. And of course its fun. Oh and im in the OC/LA area in CA

I actually only missed once and that was the 8 ball in second game, and it went into another pocket. The first game I made a ball but scratched and she ran I think 2 balls and out. It was a good learning experience.

OK JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, THAT MOST PLAYERS,, FAST PLAYERS WILL TELL YOU THAT BAR BOX 8 BALL IS HARDER THAN BIG TABLE 8 BALL....... IT IS SO CRAMPED ON A BAR BOX THAT IT IS TOUGH TO MOVE THE ROCK AROUND ..... IT IS HARD TO LET YOUR STROKE OUT....

Could it be that she did shoot better than you? You should of asked her name maybe she was a pro. Then you could of asked her for an autograph.

This is true, however I don't think just because 8 ball bar box has things cramped that means that 9 foot 8 ball is eaisier, its just a different set of problems like having longer shots, with tougher pockets.

She wasn't a pro dude, she is a c player at absolute best on a bar box, she would for sure be a d player 9 ball 9 foot table.

Im not complaining, im glad it happened, teaches me to focus, not take wins for granted, but the point is that its tough for me to really concentrate and go for it. I was thinking that I want to make it look easy like I didnt have to try, and it didnt work out so well. Looking at the results from the turning stone im not alone, some serious players got beat by people ive never heard of, even mika lost. So although im obviously not at that level, it goes to show that you need to concentrate to beat every person you play regardless of their skill level.

Its correct,bartable 8 ball is one of the toughest games,8 ball is easier on the big table then the small table and 9 ball is easier on the bar box then the big table.

Since you want a story...

One time I was at a bar that I ran the tournament in and so I had keys to the table. I had just played Danny Medina an ahead set for $100 and even though I lost, I felt like I acquitted myself well. I made it last a while anyway.

So, while I was playing Danny, he played a safety on me that was TIGHT. So after we bs'd for a minute and he left, I stayed for a few minutes and practiced the safety. Well, sure enough, I play the safety and a very drunk BIATCH (old woman) comes over and tells me I played the wrong shot and that the 3 ball was an easier shot and even I could have made that one :0 (The 3 was just sitting there completely irrelevant to the safety I was practicing) I politely thanked her for her opinion and set the balls back up to shoot the safety again. She grabbed my cue out of my hand proceeds to show me the 'correct' shot. I'm torn because I can't stand her having my cue, but I'm worried if I grab it from her she'll fall and her big drunk cow ass will keep holding it and it will break. This was my (at that point) new Schon and my pride and joy.

So, after a heated discussion which involved some minor swear words and her calling me a dickhead, I wrest my cue from her and tell her to leave me alone. She waddles away and yells "call me sometime, lover" over her shoulder...As if!

Sigh. The good ole days.

Yeah, this was in early to mid 90's and he was playing everybody ahead sets and winning. Archer came to Denver and lost to him a couple of times that way. It was a runout fest and I was very happy to keep it going for a little while. Problem was I was running 1s and 2s and he was running 3s and 4s...

On a barbox he can be downright SCARY. After this match, he told me that one time he strung 29 racks in a ring game on the same table we were playing on. It was a Dubb's pub on the table in the back.

If this is true, than why when we on the forum talk about the best bar table players in the world, we say that they can and have ran consecutive racks into the 20's. But in the ipt, I think the strongest streak was 7 by Dennis Orcullo.

I thought all of the runout streaks we've talked about on AZB in the 20's on a barbox were 9-ball.

shooting a long shot in the wide open is not nearly as difficult as shooting a short shot in tight traffic. its not even close.

Aah the ol' BJ hustle. I had an old friend long ago that brought in a very attractive middle aged woman without me seeing them together to mess with me during a tournament. I noticed that she was staring at me and staring hard. I introduced myself and she got right to it. She said, "Why don't you come out back with me. I would really love to give you a BJ!".

I didn't see this for the ruse it was as there was nothing but a seriously kinky look on this womans face. She may have been a professional, I don't know. The place went silent and all eyes were on me.

I paused, chalked my cue, and thought about the tournament that I had pretty much locked up and said, "I'm a little busy right now.......but maybe later???".

My old friend just about had a heart-attack from laughing so hard. I miss that guy and his craziness.

Note to self: always mess with the young guys when I get old and moderately crusty.

It's like money in the bank. you put some in,then you come back later and draw some out "with interest".
