a blurry one pocket rule that cost me money.

There's a funny accustats tape where two guys are playing in a 1p tournament, and someone nudges a ball with his stroke. His opponent cries foul, but he doesn't see it that way. In fact I don't think he even tried to move it back. So the opponent's response is to get down, swing, and then casually sweep his stick sideways after the stroke, raking all the balls in front of his hole
I think replace when possible, and if your shot affects the outcome, you owe a ball. I'm not sure what to do if someone moves balls and nobody can tell where they used to be... give up that game and rerack? Take a wild guess? Spot'em?
I would love to see that tape and make a gif out of it..Its hard to blame the guy that has to go that extreme to teach his opponent why a rule is in place. All of us have been in those situations, usually gambling or high pressure where "Unsportsmanlike like activity occurs"
I just recently had a guy shark me while I was bridging over a ball and the cue ball was frozen to the object ball and I was shooting away, basically impossible to foul under those conditions. So right before I release my stroke he yells "stop" I need to get someone to watch this.
The guy that came to watch it said "why is it necessary to watch this, its frozen" Bla bla bla, anyway it was another attempt to disrupt my game as I was winning and it worked because I was standing there listening to an argument, I had failed to realized I moved the bridge and poked the ball 1/4" and FOULED by not driving nothing to the rail..LOL:thumbup: Now Im slightly angry and embarrased..The dude that did this too me has been playing pool for like 40 years!
Dave I agree with you about "all ball fouls" but its pretty difficult to get players to agree to play that way. Not to mention a heavier players gut will poke a ball and they claim they never felt it..DRAMA. I accepted my foul and paid after the game. Later I researched it..
The BCA rule book is far more expansive and addresses far more scenarios, but for some reason people still like to use thinner rule books that leave too many situations open for interpretation, leading to arguments. So, based on the rules you were playing by, here's how I would rule:
At the top of the onepocket.org web page it states: "Unless clearly contradicted below, general pocket billiards rules of play and etiquette apply to One Pocket, and complete General Rules are available from the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA)."
As per WPA rule 6.6 Touched Ball - "It is a foul to touch, move or change the path of any object ball except by the normal ball-to-ball contacts during shots. It is a foul to touch, move or change the path of the cue ball except when it is in hand or by the normal tip-to-ball forward stroke contact of a shot."
Because you agreed to play "cue ball fouls only", the first sentence of rule 6.6 is not applicable to your game. If it was just object balls that were moved and affected, then put them back and keep shooting.
But, because the cue ball was affected, it is a foul. No rule on onepocket.org*clearly contradicts WPA rule 6.6, therefore*the second sentence in WPA rule 6.6 is applicable. Had the cue ball not been in the mix, it wouldn't have been a foul.*
"Cue ball fouls only" doesn't just mean scratching or jumping the cue ball off the table. It means anything to do with the cue ball.
Some might say that in the onepocket.org quote above, it says to follow the WPA "General Rules" which is section 1, and the foul rule I quoted is from section 6. However, the rules in WPA section 6 are applicable to all games of pool and are therefore by definition "general".
I know this isn't the flat-out "show me the rule on paper" explanation you're looking for. But, by applying multiple rules, it's clear cut.

John I think this is in the Accustats Bloopers 2 tape. It might be in Bloopers 1. If you don't have these videos, they're a must-watch. There are other funny foul arguments too, I think there's one where ?Mike Sigel? or someone blew on a ball to slow it down, and argued he didn't foul since he didn't touch the ball. There are also some fantastic fluke and non-fluke shots caught on tape.
the only way one pocket played was played the cash that ive seen is: Everything is a foul.
That way the the argument ends up being whether or not some one touched another ball.
"Foul! You moved the 6 off the rail with your sleeve!"
