Has anyone ever seen or read this book? It concerns "mental toughness" in the game of pool, and since that is an area I'm fairly weak in at times, I'd like to get one and see if it helps...It can't hurt!! I honestly believe if I could master my own mental strength during the game of pool, I could seriously be a tough opponent. I may play fairly well now as some of you may know or have seen, but I'm always easily distracted by things...BUT if I can get away from that, LOOK OUT!! I know how to get ahold of this book, I just wanna know if it's worth it, or if anyone here may have one for sale that's SLIGHTLY used or something for a better deal. I've gotten more into reading now cuz of school and thought I'd give it a shot. Let me know, thanks guys, Jeff

Have not heard of "Mind of Steel" before. Would guess if it exists a search on amazon.com will find it at a reasonable cost. The readers comments can be enlightening too.

Most commented on mental prep books around here are "Pleasures of Small Motions" and the tennis related "The Inner Game fo Tennis".

I gave away my copy of Pleasures of Small Motions to a member here, didn't really sink thru my little thick head. Do a search for P of S.M. for lots of comments on AZB.

I tried getting it online where I found it, and it obviously is not a book. It seems to be an MP3 that is sent to your computer...which I don't want, I want a book!! I understand the MP3 version MAY BE ok, but I wanna read it at my leisure, not just listen to it. I guess maybe it's not gonna work, damnit!

Another good book

to read, particularly for strategy, is 'The Art of War' by Sun Tzu.

Dr Stankovic

Dr Stankovich has written a few articles on pool. He is a real down to earth guy and used to be a player himself. I believe he played with Putnam years ago in Youngstown. anyway he has a website and is extremely reachable. www.drstankovich.com

mental toughness seems to be the same

Mental toughness seems to be the same regardless of the form of competition. One of the better books I have read with a large section devoted to the mental game is J Michael Plaxco's "Shooting from Within" about pistol competition. I would head to the library and look for books by Olympic champions and others. The one directly about pool seems like it would be most relevant but may not be the best for the mental game. After reading a handful of books about the mental game it becomes easy to see the views almost all champions share and which are unique to the individual or perhaps only hogwash to put in a book. Once you find a book you really value, write down the ISBN number and do a search on that to purchase it. Speaking of which, the library can usually locate books in the system and get them for you if you have the ISBN number.

I have "The Pleasure of Small Motions" and don't care for what I got out of it myself. It seems to focus on accepting your current level of play more than what it takes to be a champion.
