A cable tv show for pool?

RKC, I think like every human you are right sometimes - in other cases you may well be wrong.

My main concern is to look at people totally unrelated to the deeper secrets of pool - the derogatory term here for them is "bangers". If you want a broad base of people interested in pool you have to realize that not everybody is reading AZB and the like. But there are millions of people who might find pool interesting enough if it were provided to them for free on cable tv or the like. A small percentage of those again would join our ranks of players with a deeper interest. And even those who would not would add to the viewer statistics on tv thus getting advertisers and sponsors a lot more interested than they are currently.

This is just my 2 Cents.

It is obvious that in order to promote pool we need it in all kinds of mass-media are possible. And I agree that at least in the start in order to gain as much audience as possible it better the possibility to watch the show be free. I am not a PPV fan at all and hardly believe many non-pool related people will spend their money to watch it.
Very simple example on the basis of my country and possibility to watch pro-pool tournaments which are held in Europe. There is KOZOOM streaming the events so you are able to watch it but of course you have to pay for it. And the payments for the premium pass are 10eu for a day, 25 for 10 days, 50 for 3 months and 100 for a year. Now let's have a look at the average ukranian earning may be 250-300 euros if he lucky to live in the capital or other major city. I better won't tell you what is a teacher's salary in my country for example. You know what in 2015 during the EC for youth in Sankt-Johann only one player from Ukraine Vitaly Patsura represented the country. He has to go there alone without a coach or a team-leader who could support him. I quess it was the first time in the EPBF history but that was the sad situation in our country. He was 18 and it was his last chance to win the gold finally after bronzes he had before last two years and there was Filler-killer missing at that EC so he knew that is his chance and he grab such a desired gold in the last discipline 9-ball beating russian Sergiy Lutsker in the final. And quess how many people watched his success then... The ones who really cared about it - the coach and his friends out of our pool school buying the pass for the event and that's it. And nothing changes with this policy.
One more example it was WC 9-ball 2017 streamed free and at the same time US-Open bar tables tournament streamed PPV and I've seen very reasonable questions why to pay for this if the main tournament of the year you can watch free and that was one of the best thing about that WC. And when last US-Open 9-ball was held of course I was very interested how it is going on and watched it through the related group on FB and I've seen some comments of those who paid to Accu-Stats PPV and were very dissatisfied when see some parts of some matches it the group. Of course they didn't want others watch the show free when they paid for it and you expect the audience will grow? There are plenty of examples how sick is my favorite game. Sad but truth.
I could make more examples but all of them show there is no interest to watch it in such environment as here and pay for it. I'm very curious how is kozoom audience growing all these years and how many non-pool related people came in...
So I quess at least at the beginning until you have already big enough audience come in better have free streaming looking for the ads money and contracts instead of expecting viewers payments grow.

Glue gets sold and bought everyday in this industry, anf even YOUR pool table requires glue to install the bed cloth. The problem is, there is NO glue today that comes with instructions on how to use it correctly, and i findnit funny that you would feel I'm chasing a dream when i just cashed another royalty check for the sale of my DVDs showing the world how to correctly install Simonis cloth, but the complaints i get all the time in PMs is that people want to learn how to glue the bed cloths down as a lot of the tables today with the N
MDF and particle board for the slate backing won't hold staples anymore....i guess I'll just be forced to dream my way to the bank;)

How much have you set aside so far for your upcoming pro tour? Glen, I hate to say it but talk is cheap. You were ready a day or so ago to give up on your plan for a pro tour because a few people criticized you. That only tells me that you are not committed to following through with your plan. If you were serious, you would be learning from your detractors and not let any obstacle get in your way. In my experience, committed people, when faced with an obstacle, find a way to get around it. They don't just give up.

I'm sorry but I don't think the "royalties" from glue sales are going to sponsor a pro pool tour. If you can show me different I will be the first to congratulate you. Until then, it remains a pipe dream that we can have fun talking about. One last thing, no one will take you seriously when your use of grammar and misspells are so frequent. You should take the time to edit any written comments you make. That would definitely make a better impression.

Royalty checks for your " DVD "??? DID you really give up almost all of tour rights to it for probably 4-5%??? How is that possible? Even you must know you could produce your own DVD's on your own equipment for pennies and with your extensive knowledge and contacts it's hard to believe anyone could provide you with anything worth almost the whole take ? Also as you know, when licensing pretty much anything but especially some thing with such a small price point the ONLY way for YOU to make any money at all ( other than maybe a $1000 check every year or so at best is if the volume is HUGE - AS IN THE MILLION UNIT VOLUME correct so how did you get yourself in this position ?). Better question is how are you gonna do all these things you are talking about when you've already got yourself in this FJ??? But I do wish you good luck though , just remember brother, P, P, P!!!!

i notice a few threads over the years on how to make pool popular again, especially i the states. I have a concept heavily borrowed from one of those tv channels that shows all of those cooking shows.

I believe the show is called worst cooks. Based on that it would be the worst pool players. I propose 3 teams of amateurs, each team led by a pro. The winners would be best team at the end of the season as well as most improved player-mvp.

Air it on a channel like hbo, epix, or any station that allows r-rated language. So imagine someone like earl or keith giving pointers while unfiltered. It would make for entertaining tv.

Another idea could be same concept with celebrities. With all the people that are famous for pro sports, tv, movies, music, etc, booking celebs that are above the d-list might get the average person who knows nothing about pool to be interested.

Would you guys be interested in watching a tv show like this? Personally i didn't care for that tv show that was on a couple of years ago from steinway billiards.

heck yeah!!!!!

If you're going to have a cable show about pool it should be an edgy HBO, Netflix, AMC type show that is a drama series surrounding pool with a good story and good actors. Like The Wire but with pool players.I know a lot of people will say that's terrible because it will portray it in a bad light. I don't even care. I would watch the hell out of a show like that, and you would be damn sure it would generate interest if it was good. Too bad I'm not a writer or executive producer. If you are one that's reading this thread and come out with a show I'm gonna need some royalties ;)

And in case anyones wondering why pool has become such a joke in this country, they don't have to look any further than this thread:rolleyes:

Don't you have a thread or two of your own to bash people/ideas in?

Seems like quite a few people actually like this, but they forgot to ask for your permission first:rolleyes:

Joe Rogan may be interested in something like this.
Jason

Bingo.
And what Jay said. Get star power involved.

I also thought that a dancing with the stars format would work.

8 celebrities are paired with 8 professional pool players.
Each team a woman and a man.

Each team is given 2 weeks to work together and then a tournament is played between the teams, scotch doubles 8 ball. The matches are televised. The field narrows down to a final four, then finals. Between each find is another week of working together and the drama that ensues within the chemistry on each team.

So Samuel L Jackson and Janet Lee square off against earl strickland and Danica Patrick.

The possibilities are endless.

Pool is brought back to the spot light.
Pool halls fill up with couples looking to see how they would do playing together against another couple.

As much as I love Earl, you better keep him FAR away. Train-wreck waiting to happen.

We don't need Jack Black or Joe Rogan showing up in a Bee Keepers outfit.

Make each team one good looking guy and two hot chicks...added sexual interest. That would make it a real winner...

Really that would be the only way it would sell to a network LOL Unless you get someone like a group of comedians as a team.

Actually that may be a neat idea also, each group of players is from a specific thing, like daytime soap actors, comedians, NY taxi cab drivers, cops, firemen, waiters, etc..
